One of the most anticipated moments of the MLS Next season has arrived, as starting this weekend, academies from all over the U.S. and Canada and international opponents will compete in the highly prestigious Generation Adidas Cup.

The tournament will have 40 teams competing in each of the U15 and U16 divisions at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, from March 27 to April 4 in what should be one of the highlights of the season. Teams were split into ten groups of four, and the best 16 (the ten pool winners and the six best second-placed teams) will advance to the playoffs.

The three MLS teams from the state of Texas will be represented in the tournament, and we'll preview each of them ahead of the opening day.

Olvera joined [program_tooltip program_id='283612' first='Austin' last='FC'] this season and needed no time to become the team's main option in goal. Combining good length and technical skills, he's very reliable between the posts, handling shots and crosses with confidence. Olvera does well in the air and also does a good job of limiting the options for opposing forwards in 1v1 plays, leaving the goal at the right moment and using his legs and arms to take up space from them. The goalkeeper is excellent with his feet, and his calm and quality on the ball take the team's possession game to a new level, as he gets on the ball a lot and is confident enough to attempt passes across the penalty box and to find teammates well upfield with long balls.

Delgado is also in his first season with [program_tooltip program_id='283612' first='Austin' last='FC'], having joined from ECNL's Concorde Fire last summer. He missed the first months of the season due to an injury, but recently returned to action, establishing himself as one of the anchors in their backline. Capable of playing in central defense or as a right back, Delgado has good size and stands out for his defensive skills. He's tough on the tackle and has excellent timing for his defensive actions, frequently managing to come out with the ball and stop plays. He's also comfortable and patient on the ball and has the confidence and the vision to drive it forward when he has space, having a central role in the team's buildup.

Alvarez is another new addition for Austin in 2025-2026, having made the move from 956 United SC, out of McAllen. A dynamic and hard-working winger, he's very direct and aggressive in the final third, going at defenders in 1v1 duels to make plays out wide. Alvarez has good dribbling skills, being creative and quick to react, and the fact that he uses both feet very well to dribble, pass and shoot, and has the ability to play on either side adds an interesting level of versatility to his game. The winger also does very well with his set-piece deliveries and is extremely disciplined, offering great defensive support to the outside backs.
