If you are a goalkeeper, parent, or coach of a college-ready female goalkeeper, this is definitely the right time to fill the spots in an ongoing goalkeeper shortage. While most positions seemed oversaturated with talent, the goalkeeper position commands a premium for top-quality premier Division 1 prospects.

Luckily, in this issue of June 15th Gems, listed are 5 goalkeepers who have competed at some of the highest levels, such as ECNL tournaments, and some at the national level. A few have also gone to college ID camps as well as attended national team training camps as well as representing the crest as a USYNT player.

Luckily, in this issue of June 15th Gems, here are 5 goalkeepers who have competed at some of the highest levels, such as ECNL tournaments, and some at the national level are featured. A few have also gone to college ID camps as well as attended national team training camps. Some have already represented the crest as a USYNT player, while others are constant fixtures in the USYNT system, ready to leave their mark once given the opportunity.

This collective group of goalkeepers are considered must-watch players as they will more than likely receive many June 15th calls and field some of the Power 4 programs. They all compete at high levels with some of the best club teams in the nation. Providing their teams with the necessary shot-blocking, angle-cutting, and 1v1 skills puts them on a higher platform.

Furthermore, most of these players have helped their teams qualify for the national playoffs. I'm going out on a limb and project that one or possibly two of these players will hoist a national title trophy at the end of the season.

She continues to be part a constant fixture on the U-16 USYNT squad. Most recently getting the start in international competitions, Olivia helped the Red, White, and Blue to big time wins in Europe. She is on pace to taking her team back to the national playoffs, with hopes of possibly winning it all. Her ability to shutdown offenses, paired with some of the strongest hands and technical abilities will definitely allow her to compete at the highest levels. Olivia's #1 rankings in both IL and in position, as well as #16 in the nation for the class of 2028 is surely to rise in the next couple of years.

She most recently posted a combined 22 shutouts with MVLA as a tandem goalkeeper duo. Vivian's ability to calculate and anticipate attacking runs and angles puts her in the best position to make critical stops. I've covered her play on a number of occasions at the ECNL and high school level. She's calm under pressure, yet willing to take on players in 1v1s to get her team the win. Vivian and her MVLA team are set to make a run at the national playoffs. Hoping to see her back in the mix at the USYNT level. She definitely has what it takes to get back to that level, and her stellar play speaks for itself.

I was also fortunate to have asked [player_tooltip player_id='199882' first='Vivian' last='Baker'] to answer six soccer questions regarding training, preparation for college, and other useful recruitment tips. Here are the questions and her responses.

1. What are three of your strengths as a soccer player?

2. When did you and your parents decide that you would want to be a collegiate soccer player?

3. What are some of the things you are currently doing to prepare for your college soccer journey?

4. What has been your most memorable soccer moment or moments as a soccer player thus far?

5. Is there a club, collegiate, or professional soccer player who inspires you?

6. Where do you see yourself or hope to be in your soccer journey in 5–6 years?

Vivian's Responses:

1. “Thank you so much for thinking of me for these questions! I think my strengths as a goalkeeper are my communication and organization, shot stopping skills, and my work ethic.”

2. “I told my mom when I was nine years old right after the 2019 College Cup that I was going to play D1”

3. “I have gone to a lot of ID camps to get to better understand the type of environment I think I could thrive in. I am also working to improve in the weight room, with mental health training, and by challenging myself with new opportunities.”

4. “Playing in the Continental Tire ECNL National Selection game was so fun and a dream come true. Winning ODP Far West will always be so special, because of the girls I played with and my amazing coaches, Coach Garrett and Coach Cory.”

5. “Goalkeepers during PKs are the most inspirational because they are so locked in. A few I can think of are Allysa Naeher -- the PK QUEEN, Matt Turner saving two versus Canada, and most recently Bay FCs Jordan Silkowitz being a brick wall!”

6. “I should be close to wrapping up my collegiate career, and then the big dream is PRO!!!”
