The ECNL Champions League Playoffs kickoff on Saturday from 60 Acres Park from Redmond, Washington. The event features a knockout competition from the opening game. All 32 teams who qualified for the playoffs were seeded 1 through 32. This is the first year ECNL has utilized this format. Previously, the playoffs consisted of group play at the start of the playoffs. There is no room for error this campaign with the knockout style from the start.

With the new format, the expectation is there will be more upsets along the way. Check out a scouting report on eight players who could reshape the picture of the playoffs.

Beach FC takes on VDA in the opening game of the knock out round from the competition. VDA is the top seed in the 2010 age group after going 9-0 during conference play from the 2025/2026 season. The Virginia club scored 40 goals in those nine games. They have a dynamic attack that can strike in the blink of an eye.

Beach FC is a tough matchup in the first game. The Southern California squad has an extremely talented midfielder Michele Myers who is part of the US Youth National Team. Myers can create magic.

However, Paul is going to be the most important player if the team is going to surprise the crowds and pull off an upset. The Beach FC goalkeeper is brave off her line and allows her squad to play a high line. She has quick reflexes and good hands. Paul will be called upon in this game and might need to have the game of her life to shut down the VDA attack.

The Penn Fusion 2010 squad is one of the favorites to win it all in this age group. They have depth, an organized defense, and a dominant midfield.

Rife is the leader of the attack. The striker can stretch the field against the defense with the smart timing of her runs off the ball. She's strong on the ball and a good dribbler. She has the quality to hold off defenders and keep control under pressure. She's been a key player to the Penn Fusion attack - and one of the uncommitted members of the squad heading into this week.

Nationals open up the postseason against MVLA, which is the most challenging opponent to face in this age group. They're loaded with talent in every spot on the field and have incredible depth. The Northern California powerhouse will likely be in the spotlight for most of the action in Redmond.

Witmer is the first center back to get the challenge against MVLA. The left center back from Nationals is a top level defender. She's a smart player who reads the game and gets to the right spots to support her teammates. She's comfortable on the ball and her team often plays through her in the build-out. Witmer will be tasked with organizing the defense against a nonstop attack from MVLA, but she is capable of rising to the occasion.

One of the best games on paper from the opening round is [program_tooltip program_id='283389' first='LA' last='Breakers'] against Michigan Hawks. The Hawks squad is a favorite in this age group and been one of the best for years. They are organized, great in the press, and have the depth to handle the five games in seven days.

However, this Breakers team has been improving steadily during the season and put together some strong performances against top teams in North Carolina during the last ECNL National Event of the club season during the last weekend of May.

Simonetti is one of the talented wingers on the team. She won her duels and had a string of successful dribbles against the best outside back in the nation in this age group. US Youth National Team winger [player_tooltip player_id='221692' first='Ava' last='Penn'] is on the other side of the attack. [player_tooltip player_id='147281' first='Jenna' last='Bartlett'] has slotted in as the No. 9 with this group. It's among the best attacking trio on any team.

Tennessee SC opens up the event against Real Colorado. It's a tricky match-up as Real Colorado has one of the best goalkeepers and forwards in the 2010 age group in the country. They also have an unforgiving defense that rarely gives up chances.

Tennessee presents a fluid attack that can trouble even the best teams. Wittwer can play as a striker or attacking midfielder. She's excellent as a playmaker. She plays with her head up. She has composure on the ball and the ability to create with her passing - and patience on the ball. Piper Williams has been a recent standout for TSC with the timing of her runs off the ball when Wittwer is in possession. That duo could be key to creating chances against the stellar Real Colorado side.

Atlanta Fire opens up the event against [program_tooltip program_id='283257' first='Bay' last='Area Surf']. It's a challenging game for the Georgia squad. Bay Area has been excellent this season. It seems like MVLA might be the only team that has been able to score on that defense.

Amara Akoh could be the key to both stopping [program_tooltip program_id='283257' first='Bay' last='Area Surf'] and scoring on [program_tooltip program_id='283257' first='Bay' last='Area Surf']. The captain of the Atlanta Fire squad has been excellent this season at left center back. She's a top 1v1 defender with teh quality to shut down the top forward.

She is also a weapon on set pieces. She routinely wins 1v1 aerial duels and is one of the best in that aspect of the game.

[program_tooltip program_id='283419' first='Ohio' last='Premier'] enters the postseason on an eight-game unbeaten run in ECNL games. The sustained excellence of the squad has been built on maintain possession as well as being organized.

Prime has been a standout in both regards. She is an excellent individual defender for the center back position. She's great at shutting down the opposition with the timing of her tackle as well as reading the game to make the interception. She's also a top center back in her passing ability. Her ability to connect to the midfield and break pressure is a key aspect of her game. She will be a key player for [program_tooltip program_id='283419' first='Ohio' last='Premier'] in advancing past home team XF Academy.

FC Pride takes on [program_tooltip program_id='283476' first='Slammers' last='FC'] Koge in the opening game from the playoffs. It's a daunting matchup against one of the best teams from California. Koge has a midfield that looks like it might include a couple of players on the way to the professional game.

FC Pride has shown they have the approach to frustrated an opponent who might still hold more of the possession - check out the game film from the recent clash against San Diego Surf. McFarland was key in that game. She does an excellent job protecting the back four from her spot in the midfield. She's very good at checking her shoulders and assessing where to be to cut out those entry passes. She's sharp on the ball and quick to make decisions. She's an excellent defensive midfielder who should shine in this game.
