Defenders to Track at Aggieland Friendship Cup

<p>As the start of the 2026-2027 club season approaches for the ECNL and the Girls Academy Leagues, teams in Texas have spent the last couple of weekends competing in scrimmages and friendly matches as they prepare for their first league matches between the end of August and the start of September.</p>   <p>This weekend, teams from both leagues will have a great opportunity to test themselves as one of the most traditional preseason tournaments in the Lone Star State, the Aggieland Friendship Cup, will take place in College Station. Set to be played on Saturday and Sunday at Veterans Park, the event will reunite 164 teams in the U13-U19 age groups.</p>   <p>Prep Soccer Texas will be in College Station over the weekend following the action, but before the event gets started, we wanted to introduce you to some of the most promising prospects who will be in action. This time, our subject will be the defenders:</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Corbin is a new face with the [program_tooltip program_id='283311' first='Dallas' last='Texans'] U15 team that will play [program_tooltip program_id='283243' first='Albion' last='Hurricanes FC'] RL U16 and [program_tooltip program_id='283282' first='Challenge' last='SC'] U15 in College Station. Coming from [program_tooltip program_id='283648' first='FC' last='Dallas'], she's a center back who combines solid physical tools and superior positioning to lead the backline and provide a great deal of stability to her team. Corbin is very comfortable defending 1v1 and is very firm and precise with her actions, having a high success rate in duels. Capable of playing in central defense or as an outside back, she's extremely reliable defensively and brings a lot to the table with her ability to play different roles in the backline. Dashnaw is very hard to beat 1v1 because of her ability to read opponents and her patience, which allows her to wait for the right moment before making a move for the ball. The center back is one of the pillars of their defensive system, making great use of her positioning to always be in the ready spots to stop plays. Dawkins is very firm with her actions and uses her body very well to dominate opponents and win duels. A versatile wide player, she plays mostly as an outside back, but can also be used higher up on the field as a winger. Despite being a lefty, Diaz does well on both sides and doesn't look out of place or uncomfortable when used on the right. Defensively, she's very good at winning duels out wide and uses her pace very well to control the space.
