Midfielders to See at Aggieland Friendship Cup

<p>As the start of the 2026-2027 club season approaches for the ECNL and the Girls Academy Leagues, teams in Texas have spent the last couple of weekends competing in scrimmages and friendly matches as they prepare for their first league matches between the end of August and the start of September.</p>   <p>This weekend, teams from both leagues will have a great opportunity to test themselves as one of the most traditional preseason tournaments in the Lone Star State, the Aggieland Friendship Cup, will take place in College Station. Set to be played on Saturday and Sunday at Veterans Park, the event will reunite 164 teams in the U13-U19 age groups.</p>   <p>Prep Soccer Texas will be in College Station over the weekend following the action, but before the event gets started, we wanted to introduce you to some of the most promising prospects who will be in action. These midfielders are definitely worth your attention:</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Aguirre plays for the Sting Black U16 team that will face [program_tooltip program_id='342634' first='FC' last='Westlake'] Blue RL U17 and [program_tooltip program_id='278668' first='Lonestar' last=''] Austin Red U16 in College Station. She's a versatile, two-way player who can be used as an outside back or in the midfield. Aguirre is very clean on the ball and does a great job of resisting press, managing to keep possession for as long as she needs before releasing the ball to a teammate. Her passing ability allows her to support the offense very efficiently, too, as she completes the vast majority of her passes and thrives at unlocking defenses and setting up plays with her vision. Defensively, Aguirre holds her own 1v1, covers ground in the center of the field and is excellent at picking up second balls.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/EllieA2029/status/2023635062827213016?s=20 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Ivie and her [program_tooltip program_id='283311' first='Dallas' last='Texans'] U16 team have matches against [program_tooltip program_id='283243' first='Albion' last='Hurricanes FC'] RL U17 and [program_tooltip program_id='283457' first='San' last='Antonio City SC'] U17 this weekend. A midfielder with good size and remarkable technical skills, she can play deeper, supporting the team's buildup, or more advanced, getting more involved in their playmaking. Ivie is very calm and composed on the ball and stands out for her maturity and impressive decision-making when in possession. She's more than capable of executing final passes, but is not one to rush things or force plays, remaining patient and moving the ball until she finds an opening to explore.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2026/04/2J4A0070_5cffff.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-356407" /></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Gibson is part of the Albion Hurricanes U19 side that will meet [program_tooltip program_id='283311' first='Dallas' last='Texans'] U19 and Solar SC U19 in the event. She recently returned to action after a long ACL recovery and will provide her team with a nice creative spark in the attacking midfielder role. Gibson is excellent at finding pockets between the lines to operate in the attacking half and is very quick in her mind, often delivering first-time passes and using her first touch to beat defenders off the dribble. A physical and talented attacking player, she can be used in the midfield or up top, providing her team with tremendous quality in the final third and goalscoring ability. When used in the midfield, Reich stands out for her ability to win duels and to keep the ball, using her long frame to shield it from opponents.
