Texas HS Boys Standouts – Houston Area – Outside Backs

Previously a forward, he played an offensive-minded style of soccer and got a goal and an assist in 15 starts. Le has good quality on the ball and used it to help the team create chances, be it by finding good passes or beating opponents off the dribble. He proved to be a lot better defensively than many would expect, shutting down opposing attackers with his strong 1v1 defense. He was very solid on the defensive side of the game, using his excellent positioning and superior physical tools to make stops and push attackers away from the penalty box. Michel was also productive in possession, connecting good passes and displaying an interesting ability to push the ball forward. Normally used as a right wing back with his team Cy-Woods, he uses his athleticism to go up and down the field and make big plays on both sides of the ball. A very sound defensive player, he did an excellent job in containing opposing attackers on his side of the field. Versatility was another interesting attribute Whitley brought to the table and I saw him play three different positions in a single match. The right back was very quick to spring upfield and often found himself in good positions to make plays, be it out wide or inside the penalty box. He also displayed the ability to hurt defenses in a variety of ways, using his pace and ball control to make runs through defenders or combining with his teammates and getting through passes that placed him closer to the end line. Martinez's final touch was also very good as he often found teammates in a position to score. An All-District First-Team selection, the left back added a lot to the team offensively, scoring two goals and notching five assists. Very technical and intelligent, Guzman would take turns in attacking through the flank and the middle, confusing opposing defenders. He could get to the end line very easily and was very precise and smart with his crosses. His pace and offensive instincts served Ejerenwa well when he pushed forward, especially because of the ability he had to combine with the team's talented offensive players.
