Prep Soccer Texas was there following matches of the 17s and 16s divisions on the first two days of action. We've already highlighted some of the players who had strong performances in the matches we got to watch, so now we'll expand it a little bit more, splitting the standouts by division and position. This time, we'll take a look at some center backs who had solid defensive performances in College Station.

Liner and her Sting Dallas Black 08 ECNL team played one age group up in the 17s division and had great success, getting a pair of wins with just one goal conceded. Her center back partnership with [player_tooltip player_id='112740' first='Tyller' last='Grimes'] worked to perfection as they worked very well together to keep attackers away from the penalty box. Playing more to the left, Liner made some great interceptions and was very firm in her action when in 1v1 situations. Sting is a team that values possession to the fullest and the center back is a great fit to their system with her excellent passing range.

With Yatim on the backline, Lonestar SC Black 07 GA had a win and a loss in College Station, allowing just one goal in those encounters. She was very active defensively for them, controlling the flow of the game in the central area of the field with her ability to read the game. Yatin was excellent with her interceptions and was the first to get to lose balls in the area, showing good mobility. Strong in the air, she was also very calm in possession, keeping the ball after she gained control of it and looking for the best passing option available.

Toledo was one of the standouts of her Houstonians FC USC TX RL 07 team that got one win and one loss in two matches. With her leading the backline, they conceded two goals and displayed good defensive solidness. Toledo showed to be a physical defender, but also thrived for her positioning. She always made the right choice between staying back to cover her teammates or stepping up to cut opposing passing lanes and also displayed good quality on the ball to initiate plays.

The captain of Solar SC RL NTX 07 White, Stidham was with the team when they got a win and a loss at the event, conceding two goals. She displayed excellent spatial awareness with her play and was always where she needed to be. Stidham got some key stops inside the penalty box, reading plays well and reacting to them, but also proved to be capable of defending in space, keeping up with the pace of opposing attackers and closing the space out very effectively.

Posada was one of the center backs of the Dallas Surf RL NTX 07 team that went undefeated with two wins and one tie and conceded just one goal in each match. She displayed good mobility and positioning inside and around the penalty box, doing a very good job of blocking the space and cutting passing lanes. Posada was also extremely efficient when she was pulled away from the penalty box, putting pressure on opposing attackers and forcing them back. The defender was also solid in possession, making smart choices and connecting good passes.

Peters' Lonestar SC Red 07 GA team had one win and one loss in College Station, allowing three goals, all in their upset. She was a defensive rock for them, using her size to dominate the penalty box and making several clearances with headers. Peters also made some key stops inside the penalty box, using her length to block shots and intercept passes that would find opponents in great spots to score.
