Four Illinois Defenders to Know from 2028

Here's a look at four girls defenders from Illinois I've recently covered from the class of 2028. As with the other lists, this one isn't a ranking. These are only a few names I've recently discovered that could potentially emerge into elite prospects.    Johnson's a tall, physical center back who wins lots of 50-50 balls in her area. While playing with Inter 09, she shows terrific chemistry with her teammates to keep everyone on the same page. You also see a player who's exceptionally confident in her position to take an opponent 1v1 and lead a transition to attack.     A center back who caught my attention on the Evolution 2010 ECNL RL team. She shows excellent positioning in the defending third to cut off passing lanes and intercept through balls. Stopping lots of scoring chances when I watch her. Good decision-maker with the ball at her feet. Keeps her head up and always makes good choices with the ball. Good communicator on the back line, too.     [player_tooltip player_id='246310' first='Alexa' last='Patel'] was recently a national ODP selection with her Galaxy SC squad. She's a fast pace outside back who's more than capable of making key plays in the defensive third when needed most. Awareness is on-point and doesn't lose her mark while defending. I'm looking forward to watching her more.     Kiama's a versatile athletic defender who plays for the eclipse 2010 squad. Her lateral speed is tremendous and shows a unique ability to stop fast breaks with her tackling skills. With the ball at her feet, she can distribute efficiently with both feet. Keeps her head up and plays quick. It seems like she has good leadership qualities too.
