Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
Even though she missed a penalty kick that ended up having considerable weight in the match’s final score, Carrigan was arguably Challenge’s best player on the field. Playing the No. 10 role, she orchestrated the team’s offense and pretty much everything the team created went through her. Carrigan moved around the entire field to create plays, sometimes getting the ball from the center backs to initiate plays and on other occasions finding pockets to operate around the penalty box. Her distribution was excellent and she also managed to create space by beating defenders off the dribble and making runs to the goal. The forward had some dangerous shots on target too, including one that hit the post in the first half, and was dangerous with her set pieces.

The focal point of Tomball Memorial’s offense, Carrigan has been of great value for them this season. A versatile and extremely well-rounded player, she has the ability to play different roles for the team at a very high level. Carrigan has been mostly used as a striker, where her movement off the ball and her ability to dribble and finish in tight spaces make of her a real threat. She also has the ability to drop deeper and get more involved in the team’s chance-creation, generating space with her moves and finding good progressive passes. Carrigan is also very precise with her set pieces and can create chances from corner kicks and free kicks.

A senior, Carrigan was possibly Tomball Memorial’s most dangerous player in the match. She got very close to scoring in the first half with a one-time finish inside the penalty box, but Klein’s goalkeeper Madelyn Shipley got a hand on it and deflected her shot to the post. After playing as more of a striker in the first half, Carrigan was more involved in the second half and took over some of the team’s playmaking duties by dropping deeper and getting on the ball to help the Wildcats as they tried to beat Klein’s strong defense. She also created some chances off of set pieces, sending corner kicks and free kicks into the penalty box.

Besides getting a goal in each half, Carrigan was the engine for Challenge, playing with a lot of intensity in the middle. She was very involved in the team’s chance creation and was a very dangerous offensive player every time she got on the ball. Carrigan was great at dribbling the ball forward, but also did great when connecting passes from the middle and making intelligent runs into the penalty box to finish, just like the play in which she scored her second goal. She was very dynamic and always kept her team going, but also worked hard off the ball, dropping back and occupying spaces in the middle.
