NCHSAA Playoffs Best Players Round One: Part 2

This part will highlight players in <a href="https://www.nchsaa.org/bracket/2024-1a-mens-soccer-bracket/">1A East</a> as well as both<a href="https://www.nchsaa.org/bracket/2024-2a-mens-soccer-brackets/"> 2A East and West</a>. His link-up play is critical for a team that can be very deadly in attack. However, these link-up plays wouldn't happen if his manner of finding spaces to receive the ball weren't so good. Pockets of space are like magnets for him, always finding one to continue the play flowing. Not only is his link-up and tactical intelligence impressive though. Many his age struggle with crossing, but it comes to him as second nature. Not only do they get off they float into the box fantastically, they find a teammate perfectly. His relentless nature makes for effective pressure, which helps start attacks high up the pitch. He'll chase down any defender that's nearest to him until either his team regains possession or it wouldn't make sense for him to continue. Not only is his press fantastic, but so is his positioning. If a ball comes into the box, he'll be at the end of it 9 times out of 10. He makes the opposition box his home, never looking uncomfortable. His movement on the ball when surrounded is impressive, easily and simply breaking the press. A goalkeeper who makes the goal his, Pedro instills confidence in his defenders. Whether it be by rushing the attacker and making his body big, or crucial acrobatic saves, he locks down the goal. Besides his fantastic goalkeeping, he's also charismatic. Even if there's a lapse in the defense, he uplifts them instead of berating them. The biggest highlight of his game is his attacking ability. Being a player who starts attacks deeper than his attacker allows him to work with much more space and time near, or in, the box. His ability to find the back of the net so frequently and yet still go mostly undetected in attack is a huge plus for his team. His goals aren't just anything either, they require intelligence and power. In build-up, his biggest attribute is his ambidexterity which complicates anticipation on the opposition's part. Besides his attacking capabilities, he's also very able in defense. The way he positions himself in attack helps his team have a constant option down the middle and a clear reference point. His change of pace is lethal for defenders who are left looking silly with how easy Cayden makes it look. When shooting in the box, he keeps his composure. Whether the shot goes in or not, he never looks phased and keeps his head level in each case. One half of a very dangerous left flank, Hayden helps overload the opposing team's right flank in attack. Presenting himself as a constant option helps circulate the ball and progress the play forward. In defense, he doesn't struggle to defend even the most talented winger. If he gets beat, he'll track back and help stifle the attack, or even win the ball back himself. He's complemented greatly by Hayden as they work together to make the left flank work effectively. Great on the ball, he takes the ball to the defense and causes problems each time. Even the smallest space is not an obstacle for him as he skips past defenders for fun. His pace makes him a greater threat in space. If he can leave defenders in the dust on the ball, off the ball he does so even more.
