The West Catholic Athletic League is regarded as one of the best high school girls soccer leagues in California, and this year is no different, likely coming in as the top league in Northern California with a collection of talent like no other league can boast. There are players committed to Division I schools and players that will be as soon as they are able to go through the recruiting process. With that said, here are eight players to watch from the WCAL. [player_tooltip player_id="33291" first="Jordan" last="Geis"], Archbishop Mitty, Sophomore, Forward [caption id="attachment_36584" align="alignright" width="300"] Photo: JoAnn Schlib[/caption] Perhaps the prize in Northern California as far as 2024 recruits, Geis figures to be high-profile when her recruitment begins next year. She is a player that checks off all the boxes. She’s big, strong, fast, and technical. She’s naturally competitive, even at training, which makes her and her teammates better. She was the leading scorer for the team as a freshman, but isn’t satisfied and always puts in the extra work to get the most out of herself and her teammates. [player_tooltip player_id="19330" first="Elise" last="Picard"], Archbishop Mitty, Junior, Midfield Picard, a transfer from Valley Christian, is committed to UC Davis and will be eligible to debut for the Monarchs on January 1. She is another very competitive player who is team-focused and has immediately fit in with the team philosophy. She trains at game speed, which is only going to help Mitty. Emilia Eriksen, Archbishop Mitty, Sophomore, Defender Eriksen is a good-sized defender for a sophomore and is aggressive, has good ball skills, and reads the game very well. She can play all over the back line as well as in the midfield. She’s a true two-footed player who can play on either side of the pitch. She is a girl who is very sweet and polite off the pitch, but when she steps across the line and onto the field, she becomes a very intense player. [caption id="attachment_36585" align="alignleft" width="300"] Photo: JoAnn Schlib[/caption] Kiki Vostermans, Archbishop Mitty, Sophomore, Midfielder Vostermans may be the most complete, well-rounded player. She is highly technical and is great at playing in tight spaces with her head up. She reads the game incredibly well and reacts to every situation. She has a high soccer IQ, she’s very creative, can pick a pass, and is very strong for her size. She can literally play any of the outfield positions. [player_tooltip player_id="32923" first="Elle" last="Piper"], Valley Christian, Senior, Attacker Piper, the lone senior on this list, is one of the top players in all of Northern California. She is a Duke commit. Piper is great at getting on the ball and not getting knocked off of it, she is great at running at players and when it comes down to a 1v1 situation, she’s pretty tough to stop. Ruhi Maletira, St. Francis, Junior, Midfield Maletira is a diminutive player in stature, but not in heart or creativity. A junior for this Lancers team, she is a very clever player who finds ways to create for herself and for her teammates. Whitney Wallace, St. Francis, Sophomore, Defender Wallace played with the varsity team as a freshman and as a returning player, she is a key on the back line despite being just a sophomore. With good size and speed she can stay with attacking players and be physical when needed. She is also a rising star for the St. Francis volleyball team. Skyler Brody, St. Francis, Sophomore, Midfield A varsity player in the shortened Spring season as a freshman, Brody now figured to be a big part of the Lancers midfield. She is not a big player at this point, by any means, but she is fearless in the midfield and is a technical player.
