About Kate

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I like to constantly stay involved and lead the field. When I’m on the field, I don’t stop talking. I spend the whole game guiding and informing my teammates. When I’m in possession, I have control over the game pace, and I change the play based on the score and time left. When I face shots I like to play with the idea that I can do anything. When I am on the field I have presence and confidence.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My mentality for soccer is that as a player, I can do anything, and as a goalkeeper, I need to be present. I go into games specifically trying to encourage my teammates and keep myself involved as much as possible. I also pride myself on being coachable and open-minded to new techniques and methods.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am currently involved in the National English Honor Society, the National Science Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the National Honor Society. I have a 4.2 Weighted GPA (4.0 unweighted) and high honors academically. I also volunteer at my local humane society and library.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have developed leadership, sportsmanship, teamwork, dedication, discipline, and communication skills all through my love for soccer. Being a leader on and off the field, listening to others, working hard, and being able to communicate with my teammates has helped me with my confidence and to develop as a player.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Over the past four years, I have bounced between clubs and teams, not staying anywhere for longer than one season. Adjusting to each team, learning playing style, having different coaches, understanding club values, and bonding with teammates has been hard for me. As a goalkeeper, being a leader and a key player has been hard and a major adjustment; many teams aren’t used to my playing style.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a four-year college that considers academics just as important as athletics. I hope to go south of Pa due to the climate. I really enjoy being involved in the game, vocally and physically, meaning I would like a team where the defense feels comfortable playing back to me as well as responsive to my directions and reminders. I plan to go pre-med, although I would change my major.
