San Diego Surf Cup – Day 1 Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Day one of the tourney was led by some top-level and up-and-coming U14 and U15 players with impressive plays and tournament highlights.</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>USE THE PROMO CODE almasin30 for a discount on your first subscription</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Part of my goal to add more up-and-coming players to the radar is to get out to these types of tournaments and get a jump-start on the competition.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Some of these players have already been identified by our scouts, but many are the newcomers, and they are ready to make a name for themselves and boast their stock as a potential college recruit. Many teams from the west coast participated in this event, and I was pleased to see a large contingent of Hawaii-based teams with players representing the 808 state, as it is sometimes called based on the zip code.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As a former competitive player and soccer coach in Hawaii, I always try to make it out to as many matches as I can to see the up-and-coming talent from the islands. Many times, these players are overlooked, as they don't receive the coverage as the mainland teams do. If I can make a difference in that, I will try my best to make it happen.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In this article, two really good players are on the list of standouts, but in the next few days of the tourney, I will surely add more to the list. Also, in this article, a top-21 California state player and #2-ranked goalkeeper solidified her standing as a top-tier player while getting a shutout. Her size can sometimes make opponents second-guess their shots. Evidently in a clean-sheets performance. Emilia went up high for high crosses and pulled down aerial threats with ease, made lateral saves, and cut off attacking lanes. The box-to-box player was exactly what the team needed as they took a commanding lead and never looked back. I've previously evaluated Presley at ECNL Phoenix in March, and her quality of play has since excelled, and she should be considered for a state ranking on the next update. Mylah's strong runs down the channels and into the 18 kept the defense on their toes. She represents the Far West ODP regional team and is on the Hawaii ODP team. Playing multiple sports such as flag football and running track makes her shifty and adds to her appeal as an athlete. She recently won a national championship with the ALBION SC Hawaii OA G12 team. They defeated Empire Surf 12G ECNL-RL with a 2-1 victory to bring the championship cup to Hawaii.
