Girls’ Class of 2029 Standout Defensive Players: Piedmont Region

<p>The Piedmont region as a whole is the state's main talent factory, and we see that with the standout players here. These players were mentioned in the <a href="https://prepsoccer.com/2026/08/best-of-girls-class-of-2029-northern-piedmont/" data-type="link" data-id="https://prepsoccer.com/2026/08/best-of-girls-class-of-2029-northern-piedmont/">Northern</a> and <a href="https://prepsoccer.com/2026/07/best-of-girls-class-of-2029-southern-piedmont/" data-type="link" data-id="https://prepsoccer.com/2026/07/best-of-girls-class-of-2029-southern-piedmont/">Southern</a> Piedmont articles for the class of 2029 and were chosen as the standouts for the goalkeepers and defenders. </p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Goalkeepers</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Alexandra is a phenomenal goalkeeping talent who has the great advantage of being taller than her opponents. She is a very aware keeper, never losing sight of the ball whenever she goes for it. One of the most notable things to me is her technique for catching the ball. This is especially crucial in coming out for crosses. She makes sure that she has complete control of both the ball and momentum. She is not the type of goalkeeper who seeks to waste time. Actually, she is a player who pushes her team forward as soon as she controls the ball. She is a commanding figure inside the box.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Madelyn is an exciting prospect in goal, characterized almost as an acrobatic goalkeeper. The two main attributes that jumped out at me are her quickness and bravery. For the former, she moves really quickly inside the box. If there is a scramble in or near the box, she has fast enough feet to position herself to smother danger. She has no issue coming out for loose balls or heavy touches, which shows how brave she is. A keeper who rushes off their line as much as she does needs to be confident in themselves. She is, and she backs up that confidence. </p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Defenders</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Edie is a versatile defender with immense potential. She can play across the defense, and I can't say that she excels in one position because she's excellent in any one she plays in. Her style of play combines strength and intelligence, which makes her an incredibly effective defender. She has unbelievable strength, which is most evident in her tackles. She goes in strong enough to kill offensive plays while being calculated enough to not give away silly fouls. Her defensive awareness gives her an edge over the attackers because she pounces on them when they least expect it. She is also a phenomenal attacking asset. Her passes are accurate and are especially effective when she breaks lines. She can also put in great crosses if she's playing out wide.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Ashley is a promising center-back talent who is best characterized by her intelligent defending. Her anticipations are what makes her most effective, beating attackers before they can react. She rarely needs to tackle, but that doesn't mean that she doesn't. Her tackles are composed and calculated, allowing her to calm plays down immediately after regaining possession. She's phenomenal on the ball too. The composure she shows when winning the ball back translates to her ability to resist being pressed. She's an incredibly aware player with great vision. She can play balls, whether driven or lobbed, from far out so that her team progresses up the field.</p>
