Talent in the Baltimore area girls soccer scene used to be centralized on just a few high school programs -- usually McDonogh and Archbishop Spalding. But now, it's spread around the area. Take, for instance, nine high schools are represented in the Baltimore Preseason 11 this season.

If there's a theme for the area, it's "offense" as all three preseason forwards were Baltimore Sun All-Metro first-teamers last year. Add in Sabba Haghoo from McDonogh and [player_tooltip player_id='22722' first='Shari' last='Atkins'] of Hereford, both on the "others to watch list," and Baltimore figures to be flush in goals this fall.

Here's a glance at the players to watch this fall:

FORWARDS: [player_tooltip player_id='22728' first='Stephanie' last='Lathrop'] of Glenelg turned in a 28-goal, six-assist season in 2021 to lead Glenelg to a state title. In fact, it was Lathrop who netted the game-winner in the state final. Only a rising junior, Lathrop, a first-team Baltimore Sun All-Metro pick in 2021, is on pace to top 100 career goals this season. ... [player_tooltip player_id='22715' first='Sadie' last='Wilkinson'] was instant offense for Broadneck last season, finishing with 18 goals and 15 assists in her first season with the program. Wilkinson was a Baltimore Sun All-Met first-team selection in 2021. ... [player_tooltip player_id='22636' first='Kamryn' last='Williams'] of Perry Hall is the third returning first-team All-Met forward from 2021. She netted 17 goals and added 12 assists as Perry Hall won the Baltimore County public school title.

MIDFIELDERS: Fallston is a small public school located northeast of Baltimore in Harford County, but it has a history of great boys and girls soccer. The most recent girls standout is [player_tooltip player_id='22642' first='Katherine' last='King'] who is coming off a 14-goal, 31-assist season as Fallston went 16-0-2 in 2021. ... [player_tooltip player_id='22731' first='Sydney' last='Bolinger'] was an All-State honorable mention last year from North County. The Kentucky commit is continuing a stellar run of Anne Arundel County players who are going on to NCAA Division I programs. Bollinger had eight goals and five assists last year. ... [player_tooltip player_id='22700' first='Payton' last='Schenning'] of Mercy has been a player to watch since making a splash her freshman season. ... [player_tooltip player_id='55001' first='Gracie' last='Salias'] of McDonogh will be key if the Eagles are able to challenge for another IAAM A Conference title.

DEFENDERS: [player_tooltip player_id='22681' first='Meghan' last='Bernetti'] of Archbishop Spalding was a dominating presence last year and it earned her first-team Baltimore Sun All-Metro honors. Spalding has a history of building around its defense so it's safe to say the Cavaliers are set for this fall. ... [player_tooltip player_id='22537' first='Ava' last='Schultz'] was a first-team All-State selection last year for Severna Park and a second-team Baltimore Sun All-Metro pick. The William & Mary commit can play in the midfield or defense and was part of 10 shutouts last season. ... [player_tooltip player_id='22732' first='Sydney' last='Feiler'] is a club defender but usually plays in the midfield for Mercy. Regardless of where she is on the field, this Virginia Commonwealth commit should be one of the stars of Baltimore this fall.

GOALKEEPER: [player_tooltip player_id='55002' first='Kyleigh' last='Bland'] of Broadneck might be the surprise on this list but she is emerging as one of the top young keepers in the state. She's the starter for Maryland United and that could roll over to a solid fall season at a perennial Class 4A state power.
