New names to know from SSM Capelli College Showcase
FARIBULT, Minnesota – It was a cold start to the showcase weekend at the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Girls Soccer Capelli College Showcase, but that didn’t stop these teams from bringing straight fire to the field. Let’s hit the ground running and break down who was turning heads right from the start.
Isabela Odhiambo
Isabela Odhiambo
Odhiambo is a clear leader on the field. She is in constant communication with her teammates, giving them a full vision of the field from behind enemy lines. As a Center Back she is calm and clean with the ball. Not only is she an unstoppable force shutting down nearly every option for her opponent to score, when she has the opportunity to take her space up the middle she takes it. On the field isn’t the only place she is impressive. Odhiambo manages to play at a high level while maintaining a 4.21 GPA.
Riley Ping
Riley Ping
Ping is an incredibly talented forward. Her speed combined with her ability to read the play allows her the ability to split the defense and create multiple scoring opportunities. While being able to successfully overcome 2 v 1 situations, Ping also set up her teammates for some great scoring opportunities in front of the goal. Ping is a part of the Bethany Lutheran College 2023 recruiting class.
Natalie Thiesfeld
Natalie Thiesfeld
When it comes to describing Thiesfeld’s game play, “powerhouse” is the first word that comes to mind. She is the playmaker in the middle and won’t take you stepping to her lightly. Thiesfeld is incredibly physical and makes her presence on the field known. On the ball she is dishing it out to start a drive down the field, and off the ball she is always making herself an option.
Briarleigh Dahl
Briarleigh Dahl
The qualities Dahl brings to the back line are what every coach hopes for. She is lightning fast, and doesn’t let much by her when being challenged in the back.
Katie Theissen
Katie Theissen
Theissen played a crucial roll in shutting down EPSC this first day. Her ability to fly down the field and her confidence in stepping to the ball are what allowed her to shut down two critical crosses. She inserts herself in the play at the right moments.
Mia Bosch
Mia Bosch
Bosch has a talent that I feel is often overlooked. She is a very talented player with all the qualities you expect out of an elite forward. She has the speed, the moves, and the strong shot. What she also possesses is the ability to recover. No matter what level of ability you have, someone is going to step in and shake up your run or your pass. What is unique about Bosch is how quickly she recovers and the most impressive part is that more times than not, her recovery efforts gain her possession of the ball.
