Deservedly in the discussion for the Best Player of the Playoffs, Martin had stellar game after stellar game in San Diego. The ability to break pressure off the dribble and the game awareness are elite traits. She plays the game with a sophistication, but the toughness still shows and she’s always going to leave an impact on the game.

Martin’s performance against FC Dallas was certainly a highlight, but she was all around brilliant and now gets the chance to play in front of home crowds for a shot at the national championship.

Reese Breckenridge and Alexis Newman were also considered for the Best XI from Richmond United .

Ava Martin Ava Martin D State #120 Nation VA has really taken off as one of the best defenders in her class in the state. She has great size and instincts. Her positioning is very good, her tackles are well timed. Ava’s passing accuracy really stands out when watching her play. She has the vision to pick out the right player. She shows the accuracy to play them into the right space, the patience to make sure she draws a defender before moving the ball, and the composure to do it all under pressure. A wonderful fit as a modern center back, Martin has all of the tools defensively, and more than enough in her bag to be the player that starts the attack for her team as well. Ava was selected for the ECNL National Selection Game this weekend.

Martin is a defender on the Richmond United 09 ECNL team. She plays on the left side of the back three. She can be a left center back or a left back in the future. She impressed me with her vision. She made some passes in the games I scouted that opened up the field for her teammates. She was always playing the ball to the correct foot to set her teammate up for success.
