About Brooklyn
Expert Analysis
Jake Murry | Prep Soccer Scout
Brooklyn’s tenacity sets her apart from her peers. She has instinctual movements that allow her to win 50/50 battles consistently and she pairs that with her physicality to be that needed force on the back line for the Spartans. Johnson uses her fantastic field vision to capitalizes on distribution openings to feed the attack. Brooklyn and her Sumner Spartans battled to the final whistle in the Elite 8 in State but will have to wait until next season to raise the trophy. Sumner and their talented center back should be a preseason favorite in 2025.

Johnson is a defender on the Washington Premier 08 ECNL team. She plays as the right center back in a back three/five. Johnson is asked to cover quite a bit of space in her role, which showcases her quality as both a center back and an outside back. She does an excellent job at dropping to the level of the cross and being in the spot to see the ball and the attacker. She can improve on getting her hips around even more so it will be easier to clear crosses with her body shape facing away from goal. Johnson is a sharp defender and one to watch from this class.

She showcased she does well defending players in one v one situations often. Johnson connects her passes after winning the ball back and looks to be available as soon as the pass leaves her foot. She does a great job of finding the forwards in one v one situations and connecting the pass to create a threat in the attacking half. She also connects with the midfielders well and often. Johnson reads the game well and showed she is comfortable leading players into gaps with her passes. Overall, Johnson is a confident and calm defender who does well seeing and finding open players with the ball at her feet.
