About Grayden

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I approach the game both physically and analytically. I am the sole designated 1v1 defender for the opposing team’s striker, so I am skilled at playing man-to-man. I also understand how to tackle, cover and defend while supporting my goalie and other defenders.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My approach is to maintain a calm and deliberate demeanor. I communicate with my team, lead with confidence and ensure a strategic approach to our defense, including holding the offsides line at all times. I cover my outside backs and midfielders and rely on thoughtful decision-making.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I won both the Orkin Scholarship and the Wheeler Scholar-Athlete Award (2 students per year) for athletic and academic excellence. I tutor students daily in math and robotics, qualified for the AMC Math Exam and was nominated for the Georgia Honors Program. Beyond school, I am a certified lifeguard, volunteer for Second Helpings (7 years) and dedicate my time to Youth Leadership Sandy Springs.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have honed my skills as a leader on and off the field, in my community, at school and in more than 5 years in ECNL. I feel confident as a communicator, a teammate and a role model. I set the expectations and intentions for my team, both club and school. I have played for my high school since 8th grade, and I understand the responsibilities that come with being a starter and a leader.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My father and I were involved in a serious car accident while traveling for ECNL. Our car was hit broadside and rolled over into a ditch. While we survived serious injuries, we learned that my father had lung cancer. We spent the next year traveling to New York during his treatment, and my sister and I managed the house while my parents were away. I’m thrilled that he is currently in remission.

What type of college are you looking for?

I have worked very hard academically and athletically, and I am looking for a school that will give me opportunities in both. I have over a 102 GPA with the most challenging rigor available at Pace, and I’m excited to pursue my goals inside and outside of the classroom.
