Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
A dynamic and skilled winger, Witis-Hughes is a constant threat to opponents playing for FC Dallas . A lefty, he typically plays inverted on the right, which opens up all sorts of possibilities for him. Witis-Hughes is excellent at beating defenders in 1v1 plays out wide and can cross the ball very well with his right foot, but is probably even more dangerous when he brings it inside so he can pass or shoot with his left. He moves very well in the final third and is very creative and resourceful, finding solutions for every play. Witis-Hughes finishes well from distance and is very calm in front of the goal, a combination that makes of him one of the team’s leading scorers every season.

The talented Witis-Hughes played a big role in FC Dallas’ offense, supporting the team’s attacking system in a variety of ways. A left-footed winger playing on the right, he had good moments exploring the flanks, but also brought the ball inside and even operated on the pockets around the penalty box with great efficiency. A player who can dribble, pass and finish at a high-level, Witis-Hughes causes constant problems to opponents because of his aggressive and relentless playing style. He’s very strong technically, but also strong and fast and can match up with any defender.

Witis-Hughes had a massive role in his team’s comfortable victory, beginning the match on fire and helping FC Dallas get off to a strong start that set the tone for the rest of the game. Playing as an inverted winger on the right, the left-footed Witis-Hughes was very aggressive with the ball, always creating problems for Tampa Bay United’s defenders. He would frequently beat his markers off the dribble, but also combined well with his teammates to create chances. His move bringing the ball inside to finish or pass with his left foot was nearly unstoppable and generated several opportunities for the Texans. He also displayed great quality in set pieces, with his team getting its second goal in the rebound of a free kick he took.

Witis-Hughes is a rapid riser in these rankings. He wasn’t new to the scene, but he’s been a revelation for his club’s MLS Next team this season. He is a winger with decent size. He is dynamic on the ball and has the skill to dribble at players with either foot. He operates on the right wing, but he is left-footed. The scouting report from opposing players is still a work in progress and the forward is taking advantage of the space he has been given. I believe he is leading the team in goals scored at this point. Witis-Hughes is a versatile attacking talent. His dexterity with his feet put defenders in uncomfortable spots in hopes of trying to take away one option, but nearly opening the door to another. He looks comfortable cutting inside on his left, or taking the ball with his right to the end line for a cross. His first touch got away from him in a couple of games, but his quick step allowed him to recover before a defender could punish. It’s an area that he could improve on before progressing to the next level with FC Dallas.
