The updated rankings come after an extensive scouting of club events during the summer and fall plus a deep-dive into the high school season through the first two months.
There were a number of new players added to the rankings with this update. Check out the highlights a few players below.
Witis-Hughes is a rapid riser in these rankings. He wasn’t new to the scene, but he’s been a revelation for his club’s MLS Next team this season. He is a winger with decent size. He is dynamic on the ball and has the skill to dribble at players with either foot. He operates on the right wing, but he is left-footed. The scouting report from opposing players is still a work in progress and the forward is taking advantage of the space he has been given. I believe he is leading the team in goals scored at this point. Witis-Hughes is a versatile attacking talent. His dexterity with his feet put defenders in uncomfortable spots in hopes of trying to take away one option, but nearly opening the door to another. He looks comfortable cutting inside on his left, or taking the ball with his right to the end line for a cross. His first touch got away from him in a couple of games, but his quick step allowed him to recover before a defender could punish. It’s an area that he could improve on before progressing to the next level with FC Dallas.
Landon Hickam Landon Hickam M Reedy | 2025 State TX is a player that stood out from FC Dallas MLS Next games this season. He is another example of the club’s promotion and development within the teams at the club. He is a center midfielder, probably either a No. 6 or a No. 8 at the next level. He is smooth on the ball with a clean first touch. He moves well in the center of the field to be an option for his teammates in possession. He hit some diagonal passes with impressive accuracy from the run of play. He can pick out wingers if outside backs are caught slipping. Hickam had moments during MLS Next games this season when it seemed like he could take over the game – but he did not seize the chances as often as one would hope. He is a young player who is still figuring it out, but an extra bit of confidence on the field and he could be the top center midfielder in this class in Texas.
D’Urso is a no. 1 pick for culture lifter. The defender is a player who makes those around him better because of his leadership. He is the first to help a teammate up, quick to pat a teammate on the back, and gives great vocal instructions to pick up the level of his side. He doesn’t do this just with coaches in attendance. The game film shows this is his mentality regardless of who is on the sidelines. The maturity on the young defender is outstanding. He is going to be a steal for some college program as he could be a piece to lift a program to the next level. Added to the fact, he has the typical Solar competitiveness and desire to win, he’s going to be a fun to watch in the future.
Ian Charles Ian Charles M State #74 Nation TX is a name that many people will hear about often in the next six months. He has taken over a prominent role within the FC Dallas academy. He is a defensive midfielder who makes the game seem so easy – smooth on the ball, sharp in the tackle, physical, plays with a confident swagger. He has played for both the U16 and U17 team this season for FC Dallas. He is originally from Virginia and a recent addition to the club, but there is plenty of reason to believe he could be a fast track to a shot at a professional contract in the next couple of years. The Ian Charles Ian Charles M State #74 Nation TX hype is just getting started.
Mambo Tello is in the rankings for the first time with this update, and probably ranked too low. The forward from St. Thomas Catholic has been remarkable productive in his two seasons of high school soccer so far. He is a big target forward who has good control and excellent finisher’s instincts. He is a dynamic player in the final third and has a knack for creating a bit of space around the box. He is a player that every scout is tracking during the rest of the high school season and the spring.
