Wiele led Sting’s defensive efforts in the match, doing great work in the center of the team’s defense with fellow center back Ashley Perez Ashley Perez 5'6" | D/M Rouse | 2026 State TX . She was very effective at winning the ball on the floor and, despite not being very tall, also held her own in the air. Wiele was huge when Sting had possession, using her excellent passing and vision to strongly contribute to the team’s buildup, finding attackers with long passes and outside backs with accurate diagonals. Wiele was one of the standouts of her Sting Austin team that got two wins and one loss over the weekend. I got to watch her team in their only upset, a 2-1 loss to Eclipse Select, but still thought she did a very good job. Sting was trailing for most of the match and had a very offensive approach, which left their backline exposed to transition plays. This is a situation in which most center backs struggle, but Wiele remained solid, using her positioning and her mobility to defend in space, keeping attackers away from the penalty box for most of the time. She also contributed to the team’s offense with her good passing in possession and also with always dangerous set pieces.

Wiele will lead Sting Austin G08 as they duel with NC Courage, Arlington Soccer and Mustang SC in Murfreesboro. She’s really tough to beat defensively because she has incredible spatial awareness and is never caught out of position. Wiele is also very athletic and often comes out of nowhere to step up and cover teammates who were beaten off the dribble. A midfielder with her high school team Westwood, she has tremendous quality on the ball and is highly influential when in possession as well. Besides connecting great passes from the backline and helping dictate the team’s rhythm, Wiele also hits the ball very well, be it when shooting or crossing and typically gets a lot of assists off of set pieces.

Wiele plays a massive role for her Sting Austin G08 team. A center back with the quality on the ball of a midfielder, a position she plays in high school, she’s heavily involved with everything her team does on the field. Despite not being very tall or physical, Wiele is very difficult to get by because of her positioning, excellent movement and decision-making. She never misses a step and has a great overall vision of the game. The center back also plays a big role in the team’s buildup by connecting good passes out of the back or even driving the ball forward herself. The team’s primary option for set pieces, Wiele also tallied several goals and assists during the season.

Wiele was one of the main reasons why Sting was able to maintain a clean sheet against a dangerous Albion team. Playing as a left-sided center back, she used her excellent positioning to disrupt plays and shut down several attempts from their opponents. Very mobile and intelligent, Wiele also did a very good job when covering her teammates, stepping up to make some big plays. She was also very strong in possession, rarely punting the ball upfield and often initiating Sting’s buildup with intelligent and effective passes. Mia Wiele was rock solid in the middle of Austin Sting’s defense, using her pace and excellent positioning to dismantle most of United’s offensive efforts. Her understanding of the game allowed her to make the right move time and time again, going for interceptions when she had the time and dropping back to cover when she didn’t. Besides that, Wiele also scored the game-winning goal with a beautiful shot from a difficult angle, getting into a ball that rebounded from a corner kick that she had taken.
