Expert Analysis
Brendan Segovia | Prep Soccer Scout
Piper delivered one of the biggest clutch moments of Day 3, scoring the dagger that secured Charlotte Independence GA’s victory over Silicon Valley with roughly 10 minutes remaining.
The finish itself was outstanding. Reading the goalkeeper’s movement, Piper recognized she was anticipating a low-driven shot. Instead of forcing the finish, she showed tremendous composure and delicately lifted the ball over the keeper’s outstretched leg with a subtle chip that carried just enough forward spin to find the back of the net. It was a highly technical finish that showcased her awareness and confidence in a pressure-filled moment.
After the match, I had the opportunity to speak with Piper, who is committed to the University of South Florida women’s soccer. She shared that she is naturally a traditional left-footed left back, but Charlotte Independence head coach values her versatility so highly that she is often given the freedom to play farther up the field. She regularly earns minutes on the left wing, and performances like this explain exactly why.
At this age and level, most players have already specialized in a single position. Piper’s ability to impact games both as a defender and as an attacking threat speaks volumes about the value she brings to her team.

Piper is a complete talent who thrives playing anywhere on the left flank. She’s as talented offensively as she is defensively. Her stats this season for a defender by trade are unreal: 43 goals and 32 assists. Stats might not tell us the full story of a player, but these stats cannot be ignored. When you see her play, you see why she ended the season with these numbers. She drives forward aggressively and with pace, breezing past players. Depending on where she is in the final third, she’ll choose the correct option to finish a play. Her crosses, both lobbed and driven, are precise. She makes them difficult to defend and puts them in perfect areas to finish. Her shooting is strong and effective. The goalkeepers don’t have much option when she blasts one past them. Defensively, she’s strong and imposing with her tackles.
