Expert Analysis
Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
Diaz worked a lot in the center of the field for Austin and produced well on both sides of the ball throughout the entire match. He helped the team control the central area with his high-energy defensive game and managed to stop several Nashville plays while also forcing opponents back. Diaz was very involved in Austin’s buildup and moved extremely well off the ball, consistently finding ways to be an option for his center backs. The midfielder also showed great quality to deliver long passes, starting many transition plays for Austin during the second half, when Nashville pushed forward.

Diaz captains the Austin FC team that will play in the U17 Division, having the Columbus Crew, Albion SC Merced and MetOval as their rivals in Group O. A versatile player, he can be used at the defensive midfielder spot or in the backline and is typically very consistent with his performances. Diaz is a reliable defender who pops up in great spots to tackle opponents and can cover a lot of ground, showing superior mobility. He’s very comfortable on the ball, too, always making himself available to initiate the team’s buildup with intelligent distribution out of the back.
