The senior was the engine of Stratford’s midfield, getting on the ball a lot and always doing good things when she had it. Benton distributed the ball with great intelligence, constantly feeding the forwards in good spots. Drifting more to the left side of the attack, she also made a difference with her dribbling, always finding ways to create space in crowded areas with creative moves. Benton helped Stratford win possession on many occasions, reading plays intelligently and stepping up to cut passing lanes.

Benton and her Stratford teammates ended as the runners-up of the Spartan Bracket. A central midfielder, the senior was one of the best players on the field in the 2-1 victory over Seven Lakes that took them to the Bracket’s Championship Game. Benton scored Stratford’s first goal in the match in an Olimpico and was very active on the ball, demonstrating great vision and patience to move the ball around when their opponents were settled on defense and starting quick transition plays when she sensed an opportunity. The midfielder also appeared very well on the defensive side of the game, playing with good energy and making the most of her ability to read plays to anticipate passes and dispossess opponents.

A sophomore, Benton has combined with senior Lizzie Emerson to give Stratford a lot of energy and talent in the central area of the field. The double pivot of the two is instrumental for what the Spartans do on the field as their reliable and efficient game gives the team a structure to remain organized. Benton is very active defensively but, as a strong box-to-box player, also contributes offensively. The midfielder is an excellent passer and never shies away from attempting risky through balls that often find attackers in good positions to score. She also finishes well from outside the penalty box and can be a threat in set pieces.

The sophomore had another great match, combining very well with Emerson in the center of the field. Benton covered a lot of ground defensively, winning duels in the middle and stepping up to make stops on both sides too. She was very active with the ball too, trying to take her team forward with her passing. Benton displayed great vision to identify vulnerable spots on Memorial’s defense and try to feed Stratford’s wingers with long balls over the top of the backline.

The dynamic Benton was Stratford’s engine in the match, running a lot in her box-to-box midfielder role. She worked hard alongside Brendel to control the center of the field and was extremely productive when in possession. Benton made excellent choices with her passing and often got the ball under pressure and was able to find a teammate with space to operate. Her vertical passes were always on point too, as she found a lot of space behind Cy-Fair’s backline and fed her teammates with well-weighted passes. Benton was rewarded for an excellent match with a beautiful goal scored on a free kick just outside the penalty box.

Expected to have a bigger role with the Spartans this season, Benton should form a strong duo in midfield with Emerson. She’s very active defensively and is very aggressive with her tackles, helping the team dominate midfield. Benton operates well in tight spaces, protecting the ball very well and making turns to beat pressure and create space. Her passing is also very precise and she’s able to maintain a strong rhythm of play from start to finish.
