A lot of focus in New York soccer, understandably, centers around densely populated Long Island. But Buffalo certainly is proving to be a great stop for recruiters. This year’s senior class includes one of the state’s top overall talents in [player_tooltip player_id="29403" first="Shae" last="O’Rourke"]. In addition to the South Carolina-bound standout, four other Buffalo-area seniors already have committed to NCAA Division I programs, including to ACC and Big 10 programs.
Here is our preseason Buffalo All-Metro squad:
<strong>FORWARDS:</strong> Record-setting St. Mary’s senior [player_tooltip player_id="29403" first="Shae" last="O’Rourke"] is back for her senior year. The South Carolina commit was the New York Gatorade Player of the Year, New York Class C Player of the Year and All-Western New York Coaches Player in 2020. She scored a staggering 39 goals in only 10 matches during the pandemic-shortened season. She already has a school record 115 goals entering the 2021 campaign. ... Clarence junior [player_tooltip player_id="30354" first="Kailey" last="O’Brien"] had a breakthrough season in 2020. netting nine goals and assisting on nine others to lead Clarence to a section title. She was a Class AA second-team all-state selection. ... Williamsville East senior [player_tooltip player_id="24427" first="Emma" last="Scalione"] had 14 goals and 12 assists last year while earning Class A third-team all-state honors. ... Grand Island senior [player_tooltip player_id="30355" first="Avery" last="Mondoux"] scored 22 goals last year and has 40 over the past two seasons. She was a Class A third-team all-state pick.
<strong>MIDFIELDERS: </strong>Lewiston-Porter senior [player_tooltip player_id="24588" first="Sarah" last="Woods"] was an early verbal to Buffalo. A Class A second-team all-state pick in 2020 scored 19 goals and added 10 assists. ... Nichols sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="24517" first="Linda" last="Ullmark"] set school records for goals (19) and assists (14) by a freshman last year while earning Class B first-team all-state honors. ... Clarence appears to be primed for a state title run this fall as, in addition to [player_tooltip player_id="30354" first="Kailey" last="O’Brien"], senior Abby Bishara also returns. Bishara was a Class AA first-team all-state pick last year after a season where she scored seven goals.
<strong>DEFENDERS:</strong> Nichols senior [player_tooltip player_id="24552" first="Mirann" last="Gacioch"] has committed to Ohio State. Last season she was a Class B first-team all-state selection at defender, despite spending time in the attack and finishing with 11 goals and 11 assists. ... Williamsville North senior [player_tooltip player_id="30357" first="Jada" last="Ghee"] is a two-sport standout who earned Class AA third-team all-state honors as a junior. ... The Buffalo-area private schools are pumping out a number of Division I recruits, which includes Nardin senior [player_tooltip player_id="24537" first="Maran" last="Kingsley"], who has committed to Cornell and rounds out our group of defenders.
<strong>GOALKEEPER:</strong> Lancaster senior [player_tooltip player_id="24593" first="Shealyn" last="Vanderbosch"] posted a 0.67 GAA and earned Class AA first-team all-state honors. The standout keeper has committed to Syracuse.
