Continue ReadingThe Maryland High School soccer girls regular season is just about at its midway point! With the second half just about underway here are some of the top girls performers thus far:
D Kaeden Koons-Perdikis Kaeden Koons-Perdikis D Georgetown Visitation (DC) | 2023 MD , Georgetown Visitation (D.C.), Sr.: The Duke University commit has had a phenomenal senior season for Georgetown, anchoring one of the top defensive backlines in the area. Her ability to break down counter-attacks through expert marking and precision stops makes her very difficult to break past. She is also an asset on set pieces, as evidenced by her header off of a corner against Holton-Arms.
F Stephanie Lathrop Stephanie Lathrop M Glenelg (MD) | 2024 #138 Nation MD , Glenelg, Jr.: Lathrop followed up a fantastic 2021 campaign, which saw her score 28 goals and help The Big Red win the 2A championship. Glenelg (3-3) has had some tough results early on but has come on as of late, winning two of its last three. Lathrop has been critical into keeping the side afloat and will be a key player heading into the second half of their season. Lathrop plays her club soccer at Maryland United FC and is a Purdue University commit.
F Peyton Bernard Peyton Bernard F Good Counsel (MD) | 2023 MD , Good Counsel, Sr.: Bernard has been on a scoring tear for the Eagles this season, notching 10 goals. As a striker, she possesses a superior first touch and can make deep diagonal runs off of the ball, making her very difficult to stop. The WCAC is a very deep conference this season and Good Counsel will rely on her experience and leadership to hopefully claim their first title since 2019. Bernard has committed to playing college soccer at University of Maryland.
D Drew Bernard Drew Bernard D Good Counsel (MD) | 2023 MD , Good Counsel, Sr.: Peyton’s sister, Drew leads the Good Counsel defense and has become one of the top lockdown defenders in the region. She is able to read attackers expertly and can make decisive stops while tracking back on the counter-attack. Drew is also a University of Maryland commit and plays club soccer with her sister at Bethesda Soccer Club.
GK Caroline Roy Caroline Roy 5'10" | GK Maret | 2023 #130 Nation WA , Maret (D.C.), Sr. The Northwestern commit has had a superb senior season for Maret, including earning a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Bishop O’Connell (Va.). Roy has fantastic footwork for a goalkeeper and a knack for making clutch saves when it counts. She is a dual sport athlete as well, excelling in softball as a pitcher and hitter.
GK Hannah Wilt, Calvert, Sr.: Wilt and the Cavaliers have dominated the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference this season with their stifling defense. She has three clean sheets, including an impressive 1-0 win over Good Counsel to start the season. Calvert will have a tough road to the 4A state championship but with a seasoned goalkeeper like Wilt between the posts, it has a shot.
F Riley DeMartino Riley DeMartino M Walt Whitman (MD) | 2024 #165 Nation MD , Walt Whitman, Jr.: Whitman remains undefeated thanks in large part to the efforts of DeMartino, who has been on a scoring tear for the Montgomery County side. Her speed and first touch on the counter-attack makes her difficult for defenses to break down. She has been a member of the U.S. U15 and U16 Youth National Team and last season made the Elite Clubs National League North Atlantic first team for her work at Bethesda Soccer Club.
F Gemma Davitian Gemma Davitian F Walt Whitman (MD) | 2024 #92 Nation MD , Walt Whitman, Jr.: DeMartino’s strike partner up top at Whitman and Bethesda SC, Davitian has become one of the top junior goalscorers in the country. As opposed to DeMartino, who likes to work more on the outside, Daivitian does her best work through the middle. That works out in favor for her high school side and her club team giving both sides a deadly 1-2 combination up top. Davitian is the 2021 ECNL North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and has been a part of the USYNT U15 and U16 National Team.
