Continue ReadingU.S. Soccer hosted a Talent Identification event at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California on Nov. 1 for the top 2008s in the Southern California region. This is the second event in the area for this group. Earlier this season, there was an event in San Diego for the same age group. There was some overlap for this identification event as well as some new faces.
There was a fairly even representation among clubs. San Diego Surf led the way with four players invited, LA Surf had three players invited to the event. A number of other clubs had two players listed on the initial roster, which is included below.
There was one 2009 invited to the event, Mia Corona from Legends FC, but the rest of the roster was players from the 2008 age group (mainly 2026s and a few 2027s). The early look at some of the top freshman in the region is an ideal scouting opportunity. Below is a breakdown of some of the players from the event.
The defender from Legends is a top prospect from the state. She is an outside back with skill. Legends has done an exceptional job with player development and the club has quite a few players in the youth national team picture for the coming years. Whitecavage is a right back with a well-rounded game. She is excellent on the ball. She is comfortable with using both feet to control the ball. She has a good first touch, especially when bringing the ball down from the air. She showed that she could be a weapon in the attack with her crosses. Whitecavage is an outside back to know from the California 2026 class.
Highlights
McGowan is another defender, and also a player who appeared in the earlier YNT ID camp in San Diego. She is a center back from Murrieta Soccer Academy, and in many ways an ideal modern center back. She is a leader for every team she is on, because she sets the example with her play. She is competitive, smart, and skillful. She is strong in the challenge and intelligent about the timing of her tackle. She plays as a left center back, but looks to be right footed. She is comfortable using either foot. While in possession, she is good at quickly identifying the weakness in the opposition and can exploit that with either her passing or pushing the ball up the field while dribbling. McGowan is a center back to know from the 2026 class in California.
Highlights
Fuentes is part of the LA Surf contingent at the event. Elizabeth Choi Elizabeth Choi M CA and Charlotte Rodriguez are the other two who were called into this event. The LA Surf 08 squad has a number of the top 2026 prospects, including Sarine’s twin sister, Sevana. Sarine is a skillful center midfielder. She is right-footed with good tactical instincts. She is ball-hungry, in regards to always showing to her teammates as an option. She’s a good finisher around the box too. Fuentes is a top midfielder to watch from the 2026 class in California.
