Jordan Warriors
The Jordan Warriors from Katy are one of the teams competing in the UIL Division 6A – Region 3, District 19 after moving from Division 5A at the end of last season. The program is incredibly new, having started in 2020, and already made it to the playoffs for the first time last season, when the Warriors advanced to the area round. With only two seniors graduating at the conclusion of this season, Jordan have what it takes to remain competitive for years to come.
Players to Watch
Madelyn Mech
Madelyn Mech
Maddie Mech’s solidness between the posts in one of the strengths of the Warriors. She’s an incredibly reliable goalkeeper, who makes difficult saves with a great deal of confidence. Mech handles long-distance finishes very well, moving laterally before diving for the ball, and is also strong in 1v1 situations because of her quickness to move forward and take up space. Despite not very tall, she’s also pretty reliable when collecting crosses inside the penalty box.
Brooklyn Chavis
Brooklyn Chavis
A defender with excellent physical tools and great positioning, Chavis protects Jordan’s goal in a strong way. She uses her body really well to overpower opponents and regain possession and has no problem in kicking the ball away when she smells danger. Chavis is also very strong in the air, providing a strong defensive and offensive presence to her team in set pieces. The defender also has a potent left leg and, besides shooting from distance, also takes free kicks and corner kicks very well.
A freshman, Katz brings some versatility for the Warriors as she’s capable of playing in the team’s backline or further up in the midfield. She has a strong defensive presence, using her size to win duels in the air and her positioning to stay on the way of opponents who attempt to attack Jordan through the middle. Katz is a solid player in possession too, connecting good passes and taking part in combination plays. She’s very involved with her team’s game when deployed in the midfield and often pushes forward to finish chances.
Highlights
Also capable of playing as a forward, Lambert is most often used as a No. 10 with the Warriors. Her excellent skills on the ball and quick decision-making make of her a great fit for the position as she’s great at advancing the ball and involving her teammates. Lambert has great vision and is a great passer, often turning to one-contact passes to break pressure. A University of North Texas commit, She’s also dangerous when making runs to push the ball forward on her own and can finish well from inside the penalty box or longer distances.
Highlights
Natalie Vernier
Natalie Vernier
Another freshman to play a big role with the Warriors, Vernier adds a lot to the team’s offense. Normally used on the left of the team’s midfield line, she’s a really strong dribbler, who doesn’t back down for anyone and is very aggressive on the ball. She typically uses her pace and skills to beat opponents off the dribble, but can also use her body to shield the ball when operating in tighter spaces or in slower buildups. Vernier also tracks back a lot to help on defense.
