Below is a scouting report on some of the top forwards and goalkeepers from this group.
Humphreys was a miss on the first edition of this list. She missed most of last season due to injury. The Mid Atlantic All Conference honoree is splitting time in goal for the top team in the 06 age group. She plays with a lot of confidence. Not the tallest for the position, but makes up for it with great technique. She might punch the ball too much – i.e. a tip over the bar instead of a save – but she makes the saves and rarely gives up goals. She instills so much confidence in her teammates that it is easy to see why VDA has been successful at this level.
Banks played on the wing in the Mid-Atlantic Talent ID game, but I’ve also seen her play as a center forward. She is a fast attacking talent. Scouts will note her size, she is smaller than most in this class, but she makes up for it with her skill and smarts. She is also a high work rate type of player and does well in reading the game to get into the right passing lanes. Banks has a ton of potential and has been an impactful player in the Girls Academy this season.
Highlights
Worrell is a forward who has been outstanding during the high school season. Worrell had nine goals and five assists in the month of May for her high school team as she led them to the finals. The winger plays her club ball for VDA. She has a long stride and pace to get in behind the defense. She is a good defending winger, she could improve a bit on her defensive technique in using her body to knock players off the ball. On the ball, she has quick feet and can navigate around defenders with her skill. Worrell hasn’t always been a big impact player in the ECNL, and looks to be a bit under-the-radar, but she has the quality to be a leading goal-scorer at the college level.
Center forward for the VDA 07 ECNL team. She plays as an attacking midfielder too. I think her player profile lends more to a support striker than a center forward, but her quality in the link-up play makes her a weapon as a No. 9. She could afford to be more selfish around the box, she tends to play provider for teammates too often. Horst’s potential is obvious. As she continues to hone her skills in the ECNL, she will be a player to watch for the future.
Impactful player in the two-way game. Plays as a more advanced winger, but does well in her defensive responsibilities. Would love to see her end up with a program that uses wing backs. She can finish and create in the final third. Versatile to play on either wing.
Winger. Right wing. Javers stood out from game film because her unrelenting approach to the position. She is always looking forward and attacking the outside back. She is either trying to send in a pass behind the defense and get in herself. She is a bit of a one-dimensional approach type of player, but the pressure she puts on the outside back is effective. She is a good finisher and can score from tight angles. She has the quality to be a starter at the next level.
Right footed winger. Houtz is a name to watch as she could be a stellar option as a super-sub for the right team in the future. VDA already utilizes her as a change-of-pace option from the wing, and it’s a good blueprint for her possibility at the next level. She is quick, great in the press, and has a nose for the goal – an instant impact type of prospect.
Inverted winger. Could be an attacking midfielder in a central role. Works well for her side because it opens up the space for the attacking outside back. She works well in tight spaces. Good in combination play – both with her accurate passing and her movement. Her slight adjustments to change the angle for her teammates is worth highlighting for any player looking for how to successfully provide a passing option to teammates. Could improve on her shielding, being stronger on the ball and improving her technique in holding off defenders. Really like the aggressiveness of her game – not afraid to put in a slide tackle or go full into a 50/50 duel.
