Beyond the top players from this group, the theme is player movement. A number of players with US Youth National Team call-ups have been recruited to join MLS academies – both in the state and out-of-the-state. For the players who moved, they are no longer included in the California rankings (i.e. Hudson Garner left City SC this offseason and joined Real Salt Lake so he is now part of the Utah rankings).
Even with the player movement, there is still plenty of talent in the state in this class. Check out a scouting report on a handful of players from the PrepSoccer California 2027 rankings.
Trelles is a central midfielder from SF Glens in MLS Next. He was one of the best players on the club’s 09 team last season. The expectation is that he will be a top contributor for the group at the U15 level this year. He has been identified as a top player in the state and region by US Soccer and US Club Soccer with call-ups to the Youth National Team and the Player Development Program (PDP). Trelles is a high work-rate player. His club uses him to press in a variety of ways and he is a willing runner. In possession, he is creative with the ball. He has the skill to take on players on the dribble, but he’s an even better passer. The Glens play a lot of combination soccer and Trelles is the facilitator for that. He has high level upside. He isn’t the biggest player on the field but he has adjusted well to the physical nature of the elite club game so there is reason to believe he will still be an impactful player in the older age groups and the next level.
Highlights
Garcia is a right footed central midfielder. He previously played for Albion SC San Diego including a few games up an age group with the 08 team. He joined LA Galaxy Academy in the offseason and should be an immediate standout with that group. Garcia was part of the US U14 Boys National Team West Region Talent ID Mini-Camp in February. He was also called into a Talent ID event in May. Garcia played as a box-to-box midfielder. High work rate, good skill, excellent passer, he fit the prototype of the position. He has a well-rounded game. The multi-faceted skillset lends the possibility that he could slot into a different role with Galaxy. As his on-ball defending suggests he could be an outstanding outside back as well.
Rylan Hashimoto Rylan Hashimoto F State CA is a forward for Sacramento Republic. He has been called into US Soccer Talent ID events for Northern California for the 09 age group. He is a center forward who is good on the ball and can play with his back to the goal. The aspect of Hashimoto’s game that stands out is his anticipation and knack for reading the game. He scores a lot of goals by adjusting his runs and looking for different angles to get on the end of crosses. He’s also an excellent passer and could perhaps drop into a role as an attacking midfielder.
Eiler is a center forward for Santa Barbara SC. He is a late 08 birthday. He has been part of the MLS Next Best Of games during last season for that age group. The striker has played up an age group in the past with his club’s 07 team. He is a right-footed striker. He is 6-feet tall and uses his size well. He is one of the better players in this class in playing with his back to the goal. Eiler has the potential to develop his game into the best center forward in this group. The drive and the talent are there.
Steelman is another new addition to LA Galaxy Academy this offseason. He was a star for San Diego Surf 09 ECNL in the Boys ECNL for the past few seasons. He played as a center forward for Surf during the ECNL playoffs last year. He is left-footed and easy to spot on the field thanks to his blond curls. He has the physical profile of a speedy winger, but he has some tricks in his bag. He’s clever on the ball and an excellent passer. He could slide out wide and dominate against outside backs or he can play through the central channel and use his strength for the hold-up play. Steelman is a player who could make a big splash in MLS Next this season.
