The theme for Georgia’s top talent is defense. The lone representative from the state on the national team in the 09 age group is an outside back. The other top ranked players from the state also hold down the defense. The state appears to be developing some of the best in the nation at center and outside back.
Below is a scouting report on the top five players from Georgia’s freshman class.
Kersh is a defender from Tophat 09 GA Gold. She plays left back for her club team. She is the only player from Georgia on the US U14 Girls National Team. Kersh is a highly rated outside back for her two-way game. She is excellent defensively – tactically smart with positioning, strong in duels, and good recovery speed. She is also a standout in possession. She can hit a good cross with either foot. She has good vision and can play the key pass to split the defense. Kersh has the tools to be an international caliber player from the 09 age group.
Scott is a defender from Tophat 09 GA Gold. She plays center back for her club. She was part of the US U14 Mini-Regional East Camp. She was also part of the Girls Academy National Talent ID roster. Scott is an outstanding defender. Excellent at keeping the game in front of her, Scott is great at knocking down outlet passes and keeping the pressure on the opposition. Her side likes to play through her because they trust her decision-making on the ball. She has a strong leg and can change the point-of-attack quickly with her long-range, accurate passing.
Stoddard is a defender from the United Futbol Academy 09 ECNL. She plays as the right back for her club team. She was part of the US U14 Girls National Team Mini-Regional East Camp. Stoddard is a key piece of the UFA squad that is 6-0 this season with 0 goals conceded. She was a bright spot of the back four during the ECNL postseason in June. Great at reading the game and smooth on the ball, Stoddard has the tools to be a top player at the position for a long time. A few of her cohorts from the UFA defense will appear pretty high in the state rankings as well.
Chapman is a midfielder from the Concorde Fire Platinum 08 ECNL – the three-time ECNL Southeast Conference Champions. She plays as an attacking midfielder and can fill in as a box-to-box midfielder. Chapman has been called into multiple US Soccer Talent ID Center events. The midfielder had a strong showing last season and appeared in a For the Future series. Her play during the ECNL postseason confirmed that early scouting. She is a crafty player with quick feet and excellent ball control. The knock on her game has been the ability to get past defenders with speed. She makes up for it with her passing and ability to think two plays ahead. Chapman’s impact at the 08 ECNL level is hard to deny, which makes her one of the best in the 2027 class.
Gunn is a defender for the Tophat Gold U16/08 GA team. She was one of the players we highlighted last season as a player to watch from the 2027 group. She was a key piece of the team that went on to win a National Championship. Gunn has been excellent this season. She had a strong showing at left center back against Florida United in the Girls Academy league game earlier this month. Tophat has been dominant at that level with a 10-0 record and only four goals conceded. Gunn, individually, impressed with her decision-making on the ball and her ability to progress the ball up the field on the dribble. Gunn is a top defender from this class.
