Rankings Analysis: Best midfielders from Virginia’s 2027 class

She has also played up an age group for an ECNL event this season, which shows how highly regarded she is within her club. She jumped off the screen from game film. She immediately made impactful plays on both sides of the ball. She was physical in the tackle and dictated where the game was played with how she shut down the opposition from breaking through her line. On the ball, she impressed me with her patience and vision. She did not force a pass, but surveyed the field to find the best option. Fernald could improve on using her body in 50/50 situation and she has a tendency to reach for the ball rather than shield off the player. She has good strength and could utilize that more. She is a pretty good dribbler and when she drifts wide she often beats outside backs on the dribble to get to the end line and hit in a cross. Her off-the-ball movement has really impressed me from game film this season. She's excellent at making adjustments and reading the play to get into the best spots for her teammates. She has done well in playing off of the other midfielders for Richmond in order to create advantages in certain areas of the field. She can destroy the opposition in the open field, but she really shows her class and quality in tight spaces with her close control and subtle feints. The midfielder is good on the ball with a clean first touch and good vision. She can play as an attacking midfielder or box-to-box midfielder.
