Continue ReadingThe US Club Soccer id2 National Identification program has been one of the most successful early identifiers of top talent in the United States in the sport over the past couple of decades. The program was established in 2004 and has a long list of successful alums including many members of the U.S. Men’s National Team and U.S. Women’s National Team.
This year’s edition of the id2 National Identification features the 2010 age group. The process starts with nationwide scouting from leagues and Player Development Programs. From there the scouting funnels to id2 Selection Events and then id2 Regional Training Camps. The top players from those camps are selected for the id2 International Tour – the Girls team will be headed to Spain in April of 2024.
The East Regional Training Camp was held last month in Tampa. Forty players were called into the camp. Check out some of the names to know from the camp below and check out the full roster.
Williams plays for Jahbat FC, a club from Evanston, Illinois. She’s been part of the US Soccer Talent ID Center Events in the past. She is a forward/winger. Right footed, but comfortable to play on the left wing too. She is a valuable asset on a small roster as her dynamic pace and strong defensive skills makes her an option at outside back as well. The positional versatility and elite pace makes her a top prospect to watch from this group.
Symmonds is a midfielder on the Florida Premier 2010 ECNL team. She has been part of the US Soccer Talent ID events in the past as well as the ODP South team. Symmonds is part of a very talented soccer family. Her older sister Adia is a top player in the 2007 age group/2025 class. Aziza is starting to make a name for herself. She is a box-to-box midfielder who is influential on both sides of the ball. The aspect of her game that really stood out from game film was her passing ability. She has excellent vision and hits a variety of passes to open up the field for her team – cross field diagonal balls, back spin over the top to send in the center forward, and grass-cutting driven balls on the ground. She has all that in the arsenal and more. She is often the one playing the key pass. She is very comfortable on the ball on either foot and has the skill to fake a pass to create space in the center of the field. Symmonds is a highly intelligent player and has the potential to be an international level prospect in this age group.
Skalski is a forward on the WNY Flash Academy 2011 ECNL team. She is playing up an age group at the id2 level. It’s rare to have a player playing up an age group at this level, but Skalski is a rare talent. She played up an age group last summer for the ECNL playoffs. She looked like an unstoppable force in the attack for WNY Flash. She has this extra gear that no one else seems to match. She is an elite dribbler and finisher. The game-breaking ability makes her a top player from the 2011 group – and even among the best 2010s.
Highlights
Jericho is a midfielder on the Florida Premier 2010 ECNL team. She has been part of the US Soccer Talent ID Events in the past. Jericho stood out from game film this season for her impact on the result. She often made key plays during the game. She always wants the ball and is working to show as an option for her teammates. She has a great first touch so her teammates are comfortable playing the ball into her feet while she is under pressure. She does well in her decision-making and she is often playing one or two-touch when facing her own goal. When she is in the open field, she gets downhill in a hurry and can run away from defenders with the ball at her feet. Jericho’s quality on the ball really shined during the opening games of the ECNL season. It’s easy to see why she was selected for this event as a top prospect in her position.
Haggerty is a midfielder on the WNY Flash Academy 2010 ECNL team. She plays as the defensive midfielder for her club side. She looks like she has some qualities that could translate as a center back as well – she is an excellent man-marker away from the ball. She does well at keeping her head up and scanning for the ball and player. She’s good at getting the ball out of her feet and finding outlets quickly. Haggerty has the tall, athletic frame to dominate the center of the field. She reads the game well and often intercepts passes with her anticipation. She can be a box-to-box midfielder as well. Her defensive qualities have been her best standout attribute through many of the games at the start of the ECNL campaign, but she has made an impact in the attack with her passing as well. Haggerty has the tools to be a big time prospect.
Sydney Burke
Sydney Burke
Burke is a forward on James Island SC. She is a versatile player and listed as a defender, midfielder, and forward on her player profile. I’ve only seen her play in an attacking role, but I could imagine how she could be utilized in any of those roles to help her team win. Burke is a prolific scorer with her left foot. She has a nose for goal and can provide the scrappy goal too. Burke can play with her back to the goal in the center of the field or drift out wide. She’s been a top player at the club level this season with her high output of goals.
Isabella Acosta
Isabella Acosta
Acosta is a midfielder on the Racing Louisville Academy 2010 ECNL team. She is a true No. 8 in the sense that she can do it all in the midfield. She is a skillful player on the ball and can create magic in the final third. She can break pressure with her vision in passing. And she can dictate the game with her defensive work. Acosta is a big time prospect from Kentucky and one to watch at a national level.
Charles is a forward on the FC Prime 2010 ECNL team. Charles has been making some noise at the high school level as well. She’s still in eighth grade, but she’s earning a star role on the high school varsity team at Jupiter Christian. Charles seems to be playing in more of an attacking midfield role at the school level. It’s allowing her to be on the ball more and play as a playmaker. She is dynamic on the ball with pace and skill. She is right footed and is an excellent ball striker. She has scored a number of goals from outside of the box. Charles is a bright talent in this class.
Kartes is a forward on the Tampa Bay United 09 ECNL team and also plays on a boys team in MLS Next. She is a 2010, but often plays up an age group at the club level. She comes from a soccer family. Her dad was a professional player in Greece and played in MLS. Kartes is listed as a forward/midfielder on her player profile. She has the versatility to play as an attacking midfielder too. She is a playmaker on the ball. She does well in getting her teammates involved and creating chances. She is a good finisher in her own right, and lethal on set pieces. Kartes looks to be a top player from Florida in the 2028 class.
