Some of the most promising players of the Lone Star State were in action in Georgetown, playing big roles for their teams as they battled for the state title and we’ll take the next few days to recognize some of them who stood out with strong performances.
The Prosper Lady Eagles completed what was already a historic first run to the State Tournament in an even better way, beating Westlake 1-0 in the Championship Game to claim the title. Prosper completed the season with 26 wins, two losses and two ties.
These are some of the players who showed a strong game in the division:
Prosper’s technical midfielder was pivotal in the team’s historic title and ended up getting the tournament’s MVP award. After somewhat of a quiet performance against Seven Lakes in the semifinals, Hess stepped up in the Championship game against Westlake. Besides being very active offensively, firing a team-high three shots and distributing the ball in the attacking half, the left-footed midfielder scored the game-winning goal by sending a rocket into the back of the net from a free kick from outside the penalty box.

She had two shots in the final against Westlake and, more importantly, drew the free kick that generated the game-winning goal.

She helped her team get the 1-0 win in the semifinals against Rockwall despite being outshot by 7-5 and made a huge penalty kick save that allowed them to advance. Martin was also on the field in the Championship Game against Prosper and made three saves before seeing Hess’ banger go in. She earned an All-Tournament Team selection.
The creative Rayo had a solid match against Westlake in the semifinals, but couldn’t lead her team to victory. She was very active with her playmaking and tried to find ways to beat Westlake’s strong defense with smart passing and dribbling. Rayo also had a good opportunity to score but was stopped by goalkeeper Martin. The senior made it to the All-Tournament team.
