SoCal Blues forwards with tremendous ability

Of all the clubs in Southern California, it could, and should, be argued that the SoCal Blues are producing forward as well as almost any club. Here is a look at six girls from the classes of 2025 and 2026 that are showing wonderful ability up top.    Brophy is a center forward, who is not just a goal-scorer. Upon reviewing her film, I came away impressed with her vision and her ability to make a pass. She's very unselfish, and does not always go for glory. She brings the ball down nicely, as well, and like to get the ball out to running players along side of her. She's a great finisher when she gets in on goal, slotting the ball home nicely, and she's incredibly fast, impressively so when she's on the ball as she runs away from defenders.     Fernandez was featured recently in this story <a href="https://prepsoccer.com/2024/09/forwards-from-2026-class-ready-to-take-off/">here</a>. A wide forward with an all-out approach, she plays hard either in pushing up or tracking back. She's very good technically, she's twitchy and shows excellent vision, passing and playmaking ability.     Gwin is a stellar goal scorer. She has the ability to weave in and out of traffic, to create goals on her own and to put her team on her back, delivering the big goal when they need it. She has great foot skills, showing a lot of ability and smarts when on the ball. She can finish with both feet, doing so from range or finishing clinically up close. She facilitates play very well, and shows an advanced understanding of the game.     Henry is a No. 9, but can also play out wide, and she is a terrific goal scorer. A hard-working player, she puts in a full shift as a forward. She has very good ability on the ball, she's fast and possesses great finishing ability. A tall striker, she's also dangerous on set pieces. She brings strength, calm and composure when in possession and she is very dangerous when she starts carrying downhill.     A fun, creative player Martinez has the ability to contribute at the offensive end because of how good she is on the ball, how she can take on defenders and how creative she is. She's a good finisher, and can run onto the end of a ball and slot it home, create for herself and she can create for her teammates.     A true two-footed player, you could never tell that her left foot is her favored one if you didn't know. She's versatile in that she can play as a wide forward on either side. She's excellent about making runs into the middle of the area, and finishing cooly in traffic. She doesn't immediately go wide when she's outside, and she seems better when she tucks inside and makes a run inside the defender. With good speed, technical skills and finishing ability, Whittaker is a very good player from the class of 2025.
