Hard-working Midfielders who stole the show at I-10 Shootout

The high school soccer season continues to progress at full pace in the state of Texas and this past weekend was a busy one, with many tournaments taking place across the Lone Star State as teams prepare for the start of district play.   One of them was the I-10 Shootout, a traditional event held in the Katy region, which this year reunited 64 varsity teams from the Houston area and beyond for three days of action between Thursday and Sunday. Prep Soccer Texas followed the action closely, watching five matches in the first two days of the event. Today, we'll list some of the most talented midfielders who were in action:    Quada had an excellent performance when her team Dawson defeated Foster 3-0 in the first round of the Cougar Bracket. Operating as the team's main playmaker, she was very active in midfield and was involved in most of the team's offensive attempts. Quada showed to be a complete player, who can dribble in tight spaces, push the ball forward with quick runs and engage in combination plays, especially with fellow midfielder Ava Ramos. She was very dangerous around the penalty box with her ability to find great passes and played a major role in the team's third goal, infiltrating into the penalty box and making the cross that deflected on a Foster defender and went into the back of the net.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2025/01/IMG_4267.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-276596" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Foster vs. Dawson</figcaption></figure>    Maya was arguably the best player on the field in the first round of the Cougar Bracket, when her team Kingwood came back to beat Cy Woods 3-2. She led her team's victory with two goals and was extremely active on both sides of the ball in midfield, controlling the central area of the field. Opponents didn't have a lot of success when trying to stop her runs because, besides being able to change directions very quickly, Maya also used her body extremely well to shield the ball. She was very dangerous in the final third and managed to beat the defenders and score twice with great shots. Playing as a right midfielder, she had good moments in the match and was involved in her team's few dangerous offensive pushes. Rubio played very wide on the right and took advantage of her great pace to make strong runs and off the ball that helped her team get the ball to the final third. She was also very disciplined defensively, tracking back to support the defense.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2025/01/IMG_4457.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-276730" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Summer Creek vs. Langham Creek</figcaption></figure>    Flowers played a major role as her team Summer Creek topped Langham Creek 4-0 in the Consolation round of the Warrior bracket. Playing as a left midfielder, she combined very well with the players around her, displaying great intelligence and a strong passing ability to create combination plays. She diversified her actions very well, at times beating defenders off the dribble out wide to make crosses and on other occasions coming inside to shoot or pass. Flowers scored the team's first goal by crashing into the penalty box to get on the end of a cross on the far post. A lefty, she hit the ball very well and almost score with a shot from distance, besides having delivered great service in corner kicks.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2025/01/IMG_4487.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-276739" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Summer Creek vs. Langham Creek</figcaption></figure>    Baxter was the heart of her Friendswood team in their 3-1 loss to Atascocita in the second round of the Falcon Bracket. The freshman was a dynamo in midfield, appearing in every corner of the field and doing great work on the ball. Baxter was very good at making turns to create space when under pressure and when she created a little bit of room, she'd start dangerous runs through the middle, dribbling the ball quickly and efficiently. She also distributed the ball well, displaying great vision and accuracy with her passing.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2025/01/IMG_4577.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-276771" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Atascocita vs. Friendswood</figcaption></figure>    Kinka stood out with Clements despite the team's 2-1 loss to Shadow Creek in the Consolation round of the Spartan Bracket. The junior was the team's main playmaker and did a good job of taking the ball from the backline to the attack. Kianka's passing was always effective and helped Clements keep possession. She also connected some great long passes, which found teammates behind the backline in a good position to score.
