USE THE PROMO CODE almasin30 for a discount on your first subscription

The Davis Legacy took on the Bay Area Surf for the first match of the Spring 2025 Season ECNL G07 (Elite Clubs National League). It was a beautiful day in San Jose, CA, at the Kathleen MacDonald High School Soccer Field. It hosts matches for the ECNL Girls Northern Cal 2024-2025 season.

Most of the players have already committed to college programs, but the Bay Area Surf G07 squad has an impressive 22 players as D1 commits. A lot of this has to do with Coach/Co-Founder Heath Piper. Not only is he the Executive Director, but he also coaches and leads a program that has recent alums performing at top D1 colleges, U.S. national teams, national teams outside of the U.S., and players playing professionally in the U.S. and abroad.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1899904240992346353

On the Bay Area Surf Squad, the standouts were [player_tooltip player_id='63471' first='Mimi' last='Yamamoto'], Hannah Peters, [player_tooltip player_id='189258' first='Kaia' last='Tom'], [player_tooltip player_id='99198' first='Savannah' last='Leifried'], and [player_tooltip player_id='33320' first='Jocelyn' last='Travers']. [player_tooltip player_id='63471' first='Mimi' last='Yamamoto'] locked down the midfield as she distributed precise passes and led strong counterattacks. The Utah commit, Saint Francis CCS and NorCal Division 1 champion, brings a calming persona during high-stakes matches. Hannah Peters, the Long Beach State commit, has been a standout in the Surf program and helped her team on defense to keep a clean sheet. [player_tooltip player_id='189258' first='Kaia' last='Tom'] made a few key saves to keep Legacy off the boards. She made good challenges in the air and positioned herself well when attackers slipped through lanes. Her ability to calculate the angles of attack was where she was most effective.

[player_tooltip player_id='99198' first='Savannah' last='Leifried'], the G08 player, was activated to play up, and she did not disappoint. She played comfortably at the midfield position and pushed up on attack while firing off a few shots on goal. Just by observing her play, it would be difficult to believe she's an 08 player. Her passing skills are top level as she continuously made quick and precise passes to diagonal and overlapping runners. I really liked her change of speed as she was able to close down on the ball and make hard shots on goal. Savannah is ranked by Prep Soccer as the #10 player in CA and #6 in position for the 2027 class. She is a rising star at the national level as she was on the U-17 camp roster in 2025. We should definitely see more of her competing at that level. Leifried is also one of our Prep Soccer Girls ID Camp: NorCal 2024 standouts.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1901434914215809067

Speaking of national players, [player_tooltip player_id='33320' first='Jocelyn' last='Travers'], Prep Soccer's #3 national-ranked player, #1 in CA, and #1 in position, is a member of Team USA U-17 WYNT. She had a solid game and demonstrated quick cutting changes in direction. Travers sliced through the defense on one play that started from around Surf's defensive third, went by a few defenders, and almost fired one off inside their 18. She got the 3rd Surf goal by receiving a pass in the attacking third and made some shifty moves before firing a powerful left-footed shot towards the opposite post. It was a really nice goal. Her play at the left wing was a sight to see as she didn't need to use blazing speed to beat her opponents; instead, she chose to use a high soccer IQ and find open spots to deliver precise passes and to get herself and teammates into high-percentage scoring opportunities. The Duke commit will do great at the college level, and we hope and believe she can continue to rise to the senior level.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1901447546050117731

Standouts from the Davis Legacy team are Kallie Stacey, Emma Stacey, [player_tooltip player_id='54279' first='Daniela' last='Ghibanescu'], and [player_tooltip player_id='19970' first='Miya' last='Alamares']. Kallie anchored the defensive line, made good stops, and made strong challenges. One of her strongest plays on defense is making clean slide tackles in and outside of the 18. Emma played as the left winger. She made some strong runs down the line, she had good stops, and she slowed down the high-powered Surf attack. She played strong from box to box.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1901478256836321571

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1901479260440940777

Ghibanescu played up top and created high pressure. She has some quickness when tracking back and making challenges. Her strength on offense was finding spots in the attacking third to make passes to runners slipping in the lanes. Alamares was everywhere on the pitch. She played on both sides of the field, and some of her best plays were on defense. Making win-backs, defensive clears from the penalty area, and starting counter attacks were where she shined. Miya is a Oregon commit and also a member of Team USA U-17 WYNT.

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1901485208547037646

https://twitter.com/BayAreaSocScout/status/1901475803755577476

Although Surf won the match 4-0, it was great to see the players compete at such a high level. The pace, technique, and skill level at which the game was played can only be compared to that of a college match, as these players will prove to be key players in D1 programs as well as a few competing at the world stage.

Played as a center back.
