District play is quickly coming to an end in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) high school soccer season in the state of Texas and, in just a few more weeks, we'll know which teams from the Lone Star State will get to secure a spot in the playoffs.

Prep Soccer Texas will be following the battle for a place in the postseason in the Houston area, covering multiple matches every week and featuring the top performers in each of them. On Tuesday, March 4, we covered a highly anticipated District 19 match between the two-time defending champions Seven Lakes Spartans and the Tompkins Falcons in Katy. Playing at home, the Spartans secured a 3-0 victory.

Photos: Seven Lakes vs. Tompkins

Pressing high, the Spartans had a strong start to the match and scored first, with junior midfielder David Aguillon, who combined with senior forward Jesus Prado and sent the ball into the back of the net with a low shot. Tompkins struggled to create, but were dangerous in set pieces and in, one of them, senior defender Paul-Kole Emmanuel got a header just a few inches over the crossbar. Still in the first half, sophomore forward Kanishk Baviskar got on the ball in a quick transition play and scored to double the Seven Lakes' lead.

The first 40 minutes are over as @SLsoccer lead @OTHSFalcsSoccer 2-0. pic.twitter.com/V3OcuM8xrk
— Guilherme Torres (@grtorres) March 5, 2025

Bavkisar continued to make a difference at the start of the second half and, after a great play on the left, he found junior midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='90419' first='Anthony' last='Sorto'] open inside the penalty box to score with a one-touch finish. Tompkins continued to attempt to score off of set pieces, but their best chance came in one of their last plays, when senior forward [player_tooltip player_id='15931' first='Cameron' last='Burke'] got the ball on the left, brought it inside making it past two Seven Lakes defenders and fired a low shot, which senior goalkeeper Raul Arrillaga saved.

The final whistle blows as @SLsoccer beat @OTHSFalcsSoccer 3-0. Baviskar was extremely intelligent in how he explored space and moved very well off the ball in order to get it in good spots to be found by his teammates. With Seven Lakes scoring early, the game turned into an ideal scenario for him as Tompkins had to push forward, leaving even more space for him to explore in transition. Baviskar showed calm and composure to score the team's second goal in a quick breakaway and set Sorto up to score the third after a great play, in which he timed his pass extremely well. The forward also showed great energy to drop back and press Tompkins when they had the ball.

The junior playmaker had a great match and was heavily influential in his team's dominant performance. Sorto started the match in sort of a box-to-box midfielder role and combined very well with fellow midfielder David Aguillon to make plays through the center of the field. As the match progressed, he moved into more of an offensive role and continued to be dangerous, showing excellent vision and quality to connect one-touch passes and break pressure. Sorto made a great run off the ball to get in a good spot to score the team's third goal with a cheeky finish. He moved to the left during the second half and continued to be dangerous, using his dribbling ability to bring the ball inside and finish and almost scored twice in plays like this.

The junior midfielder was a key piece in Seven Lakes' offense, moving very well in the final third and appearing in great spots to make plays. Agulilon's ability to think and play fast was of great value for the Spartans as he engaged in several plays in the final third. He beat Tompkins' defense in an excellent give-and-go with forward Jesus Prado and was very calm and composed to send the ball into the back of the net. The midfielder was always very creative on the final third and made excellent choices with his passing.

The Spartans' captain anchored the team's backline playing as a left-sided center back. With Tompkins struggling to create structured plays, they were often forced to try to play long and Peterson's ability to be dominant in the air was pivotal for Seven Lakes to avoid that the ball found an opposing attacker in a dangerous spot. The defender also did a great job of keeping the pressure up on opponents when they got on the ball in the attacking half. Peterson contributed to the Spartans' buildup, connecting good passes out of the back.

The senior forward complemented the Spartans' offense extremely well, making the heavy work that allowed for many of their plays to materialize. Prado served as a reference for his mobile teammates on the final third and did a great job of working with his back to the goal and delivering one-touch passes, like the one that found Aguillon open to score the team's opening goal. The forward didn't get a good chance to score, but was pivotal with his ability to facilitate plays. Prado also drifted wide to explore the space and get Tompkins' backline out of shape.

Despite Seven Lakes' dominant performance, the senior goalkeeper had some work to do between the posts and he responded well. Garcia didn't have to worry about more than a few shots, but with Tompkins using set pieces as a way to get the ball into the penalty box, he needed to come out of his line to collect crosses and did a great job with that, performing the task with great confidence. The goalkeeper also used his feet well, connecting long and accurate passes out of the back.

With Tompkins struggling to keep the ball for prolonged periods of time, the junior midfielder had a hard time executing his preferred playing style, but continued to be the focal point of their offense. Ferrer tried to initiate some combination plays through the middle and to find teammates in good spots in the final third, but not many of his attempts resulted in real chances. He was intelligent in moving to wider spots to get on the ball, but couldn't consistently come inside to find passes in the final third or finish chances. Ferrer did a very good job with set pieces, providing great service into the penalty box in what ended up being his team's best chance to score.

The senior forward had a difficult night, getting isolated up top and receiving very little service inside the penalty box. Burke did a good job of moving on the final third to get on the ball and had some good diagonal runs that brought the ball closer to the penalty box. He created what was his team's best chance to score in a great run down the left in the final minutes of match, beating a pair of Seven Lakes' defenders to bring the ball inside and fire a low shot that was saved by the goalkeeper.
