Eloy Ferrer

Expert Analysis
Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
With Tompkins missing some important attacking pieces, almost all of their offense ran through the senior midfielder. Playing the No. 10 role, Ferrer moved a lot to get on the ball and did a good job of diversifying his positioning, at times dropping back to initiate plays and on other occasions operating between the lines. He managed to create good chances with his skilled left foot, provided good service from set pieces and fired a nice shot on target in the second half. Ferrer did very well in crashing into the back post to score the Falcons’ only goal in the match and left the field right after it due to an injury.

The senior midfielder was easily the best player on the field, orchestrating Tompkins’ offensive actions and getting involved in the team’s three goals, scoring one himself and assisting in the other two. Ferrer played the No. 10 role with impressive intelligence, often drifting from the center of the field to the right to have space to get on the ball. He was excellent in possession, hitting perfectly-weighted diagonal passes, most notably the one that resulted in Perez’s goal, and taking great care of the ball, rarely losing it. Ferrer scored an incredible goal with a shot that combined remarkable power and precision to seal the Falcons’ victory.

With Tompkins struggling to keep the ball for prolonged periods of time, the junior midfielder had a hard time executing his preferred playing style, but continued to be the focal point of their offense. Ferrer tried to initiate some combination plays through the middle and to find teammates in good spots in the final third, but not many of his attempts resulted in real chances. He was intelligent in moving to wider spots to get on the ball, but couldn’t consistently come inside to find passes in the final third or finish chances. Ferrer did a very good job with set pieces, providing great service into the penalty box in what ended up being his team’s best chance to score.

Tompkins’ No. 10 dictated the team’s tempo, distributing the ball well in midfield and connecting intelligent passes. The left-footed Ferrer looked to get on the ball during the entire match and made good plays throughout the 80 minutes, keeping a high level of play with impressive consistency. In the first half, when Tompkins couldn’t penetrate Paetow’s defense, he created some good opportunities in set pieces, sending dangerous crosses into the penalty box. Ferrer also covered a lot of ground in midfield and fired some nice shots from distance.
