Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
Coombs was ranked tenth among the Texas Class of 2026 forwards and appears in 26th place overall in the Lone Star State. She’s the top player in her high school team Tompkins, and also has a major role in the HTX U19 team that won the Girls Academy league national title earlier this year. She’s extremely versatile, being capable of playing on either wing or more centrally, as a second forward, and will thrive anywhere she’s put, thanks to her quality on the ball and dynamic style of play. Coombs is very difficult to stop when she gets going and, because of her ability to dribble, pass and finish with either foot, her runs often end in goals or assists. The forward is an excellent finisher who can score from inside or outside the box, and who typically steps up to make a difference for her teams when it matters.

A dynamic and technical player, Coombs is HTX’s offensive linchpin. She has the pace and the dribbling skills to play as a winger, and can do it at a very high level on either side, but can also operate more centrally, as a second forward, thanks to her finishing skills. Coombs’ skillset is incredibly diverse and allows her to be a threat both when facing a settled backline, where creativity and dribbling are needed to unlock things, and in transition, where her pace and excellent decision-making make things happen. The forward uses both feet extremely well to pass, dribble and shoot and is unpredictable when on the ball.

The junior forward not only decided the match with two beautiful goals from outside the penalty box, but was also Tompkins’ main offensive weapon. Her teammates looked for Coombs a lot and she always delivered, managing to push the ball forward and helping set up their offense. She was nearly unstoppable with her runs, keeping great control of the ball and changing directions very quickly, and, on most of the occasions they managed to stop her, the Spartans had to throw two defenders at her to do so. Coombs had a lot of freedom in the final third and used it well, getting into nice spots to make plays and feed her teammates with great passes. She scored two goals with beautiful left-footed shots and was very close to getting a hat-trick, but saw another amazing finish hit the crossbar.

A dynamic winger with tremendous pace and ball control, Coombs is arguably Tompkins’ main offense weapon. She can play on either flank, but prefers the left, where she can bring the ball inside to pass or finish. Because of her excellent footwork, Coombs is very strong in 1v1 plays, but can also break into well-structured defense with her ability to make combination plays and move off the ball. She’s lethal in open space, pushing the ball forward with great quickness and using her excellent decision-making to pass the ball at the right time. She also has a strong scoring presence with the team, stepping into the penalty box to finish chances and risking shots from distance.

Coombs is a winger who has been a standout at the Girls Academy level and had star-studded high school campaign as a sophomore. Coombs was named First Team All-Start for her play with Katy Tompkins. It’s fun to watch her recent highlights. Coombs has a knack for throwing defenders off-balance with her initial touch and then using her quick feet to blow past them. The powerful first step was effective at creating space and allowed her to lead the charge for her high school program in the attacking third. There is plenty of potential there to suggest she will continue to be a top attacking talent in this class.

Coombs was decisive for Tompkins, scoring the team’s first goal and assisting on the second. She started the match at the right wing, but couldn’t face much space there and moved to the middle, where her game improved. The sophomore played underneath striker Naomi Medeiros and made good combination plays with her, while also taking advantage of the space generated by her movement off the ball to make runs. Coombs was lethal in transition plays, making intelligent runs to explore the space and feeding her teammates with good crosses – Tompkins scored the second way in a play like this and had a couple of other chances. The forward also hit some dangerous shots from inside the penalty box.

Coombs was instrumental for Tompkins’ appearance in the Falcon Bracket final by scoring the game-winning goal in a tough semifinal against Summer Creek. A very dynamic and skilled winger, she can play on either side of the team’s attack and is very dangerous when going at defenders. One of the things that makes of Coombs such a dangerous player is her ability to use either foot to dribble, pass and shoot, which allows her to either take the ball to the endline or bring it inside. She’s very active on the field and gets on the ball a lot to make plays.

One of the most talented freshmen to come up this year in the state of Texas, Coombs is an offensive force for the Lady Falcons. She plays in a central role for the team, but drops a little deeper to get on the ball and is nearly unstoppable when dribbling the ball through the middle because of her ability to keep it close to her foot and make moves in a split second. Coombs also makes very good runs off the ball inside the penalty box and gets into great positions to score. She can finish from anywhere and is incredibly accurate when shooting with her left foot.
