Guilherme Torres | Prep Soccer Scout
The senior forward had a productive shift, getting a goal and an assist and making a strong offensive impact for Tompkins. Lehner scored an early goal off a header, one of his strengths, which helped the Falcons set the tone and take control of the match within the first minutes. He didn’t have another great chance to score, but continued to be dangerous and get involved in the team’s attacking plays. Lehner demonstrated great quality on the ball to drop deeper and set his teammates up in the final third, and also made some diagonal runs to get on the end of long passes.

Lehner started the match playing as a second forward and was very involved in Rise’s offensive plays in the first half. He moved very well in the final third, finding pockets of space to get on the ball and play smart first-time passes that found his teammates in good spots. He came back near the end of the match, this time playing the striker role, and converted the only opportunity he had, redirecting a shot with a left-footed finish to score the game-winning goal for his side.

Lehner will be an important weapon for Albion Hurricanes FC 08 when they play SDSC Surf, Placer United and Real Colorado National. He’s a versatile offensive player, who can operate more underneath a striker, connecting with his teammates in combination plays, as the striker himself, facilitating plays with his holdup, or wider, beating opponents with pace and dribbling. A very good finisher, Lehner also has a great presence inside the penalty box in corner kicks, often scoring off of headers. He’s also very disciplined and determined, tracking back to help the team on defense.

Lehner’s runs down the left flank were among Tompkins’ main offensive weapons in the first half. As the Falcons struggled to create chances with their passing and combination plays, the winger wasn’t afraid to try to beat Paetow’s defense in individual plays and had success in some of them. The sophomore played more of a tactical role in the second half, especially after his team leveled the score, and was again very important. He was tracking back all the way to the Falcons’ penalty box and played with great energy, making several defensive stops.

Albion’s captain scored the most beautiful goal of the day, displaying excellent vision and quality on the ball to chip the Lonestar’s goalkeeper a relatively long distance. He operated around the penalty box for most of the time, working as more of a facilitator than a finisher, and had some success, assisting in the team’s fourth goal. Lehner made some good holdup play, getting the ball with his back to the goal and either combining with his teammates or making turns and moves in tight spaces to get into more dangerous spots. He was also involved in several physical plays, using his body to win the ball and shield it.
