District play is quickly coming to an end in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) high school soccer season in the state of Texas and, by the end of next week, we'll know which teams from the Lone Star State will get to secure a spot in the playoffs.

Prep Soccer Texas continues to follow the battle for a place in the postseason in the Houston area, covering multiple matches every week and featuring the top performers in each of them. On Friday, March 7, we were in Sugar Land to watch one of the best teams in the region, the Ridge Point Panthers, as they took on the Fort Bend Austin Lady Bulldogs in a District 21 match. The Panthers gave their opponents no chance, winning 8-0.

Ridge Point needed no time to score as, in one of the first plays in the match, forward [player_tooltip player_id='140563' first='Camryn' last='LeTellier'] found fellow senior Sadie Bird with a great cross and she headed it home. A few minutes later, senior Emma Lovell took a free kick to the far post and senior Allison Wilson hit a one-time shot to score the second. Lovell scored herself moments afterwards, getting a great pass behind Austin's backline and calmly beating the keeper. Still in the first half, junior Relani Williams followed up on a good play by senior Madeline Boyd and finished to an open net.

The Panthers didn't slow down in the second half and got their fifth goal early on, with a powerful shot by LeTellier. Lovell scored the next two for Ridge Point, the first getting on the end of a low cross by LeTellier and the second picking up the rebound of a shot by senior [player_tooltip player_id='26338' first='Laurel' last='Kelley']. The two connected again in the last play of the match, with Lovell assisting LeTellier to score the eighth goal.

With three goals and two assists, Lovell was an offensive force for Ridge Point and played a major role in their victory. She spent most of the match playing on the right side of their midfield and was very active there, going at defenders with her dribbling skills and combining well with outside back [player_tooltip player_id='148467' first='Olivia' last='Reddick']. Lovell also did a great job of getting into the penalty box to finish chances and was always well-positioned there to score. She spent some as an attacking midfielder and displayed great vision to find teammates in the final third and was provided great service in dead-ball situations as well.

The senior forward was another key piece in the Panthers' offensive system, moving well in the final third and creating chances for herself and her teammates. LeTellier played from the middle to the left side of the team's attack and was always very dangerous when she managed to take the ball to the end line, getting her two assists off of crosses from that side. She also caused damage when playing more centrally with her ability to turn on defenders and her vision to find through balls and passes behind the backline. The forward scored the team's fight goal with a powerful shot and was calm and composed to beat the keeper in the 1v1 play that brought the match to an end.

The junior midfielder was very active in the center of the field for Ridge Point and her double pivot with senior Allison Wilson helped them control the game. With Austin forced to play long the entire time, Gammons used her size to intercept their passes and on many occasions, she managed to control them and initiate attacks right away. The midfielder also stepped on the attacking half very frequently, getting on the ball and distributing it with great efficiency from the center of the field. Gammons fired a couple of dangerous shots and also fed teammates with great passes behind the backline.

The junior and Ridge Point's backline weren't much tested against an opponent that almost didn't have the ball, but she was always there when that was the case. Dedmon's athleticism helped her shut down any attempts made by the Lady Bulldogs as, when she wasn't in a position that allowed her to anticipate the long passes they made to get on the ball, her pace gave her the edge over their forwards and helped her control the space behind her back. The center back also contributed to the team's buildup by connecting good passes out of the back and, at times, dribbling the ball forward to add an extra body in the attacking half.

The sophomore outside back combined extremely well with Lovell and made of Ridge Point's right side of the field a very strong part of the team. Reddick bombed forward the entire time and was very confident on the ball, going at defenders to take the ball to the end line or bring it inside. Her passing was excellent too, either with quick, short connections with her teammates or in long, diagonally balls that found attackers in great spots. Reddick kept the intensity level high the entire time and handled well Austin's attempts in her zone, making firm interventions.

It was a difficult night for the sophomore forward, who didn't get much service and had to chase long passes and battle multiple defenders the entire time. Despite the unfavorable scenario, Schultz was very determined every time a ball went her way, forcing Ridge Point defenders to stay tight and alert about her. Near the end, she appeared well by dropping deeper to work as a target for throw-ins, shielding the ball well and finding teammates around her. Schultz also worked hard on the defensive side of the ball, tracking opposing defenders and defensive midfielders when stepped forward and pressing them.
