Playoff Round 2 West's Best Players

<p>Round 2 of the payoffs in the West region gave us 32 matches in where many players shone. Players across all four levels rose to the occasion, leading their teams into the next round and one step closer to glory. Unfortunately, the only two levels to provide any visibility to their talents were the 1A and 4A levels. Though it was only two levels that provided visibility, they also thankfully provided plenty of it. The final list ends up being robust and fantastic, with the following players impressing me personally.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">1A Level</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Laney is a striker/second striker who proved to rise to her <a href="https://prepsoccer.com/2025/02/girls-high-school-season-preview-1a-2a/">preseason predictions</a>, leading her team from the front. Her constant movements in the final third made her remarkably difficult to defend. When she's on the ball, she proves to be just as, if not more, difficult to defend. Her dribbling clears her path cleanly, leaving open spaces for her to exploit. She also offers great tactical reading, helping her team attack with more fluidity. She'll find spaces to receive the ball in, even if it means she needs to drop back more. This allows her to show how good she is at linking up with her midfielders, providing even more fluidity. Her shot power and finishing are fantastic, getting wonderful goals from difficult positions.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Addison is a fantastic prospect as a striker, proving to be a class above her opponents in this match. Her positioning makes her the focal point in attack, a role that she fulfills with pride. Constantly wanting the ball at her feet, she easily drives the ball forward with her skillful dribbling. Simply describing her as a player who beats defenders is selling her ability short, as she has a knack for embarrassing them. Regardless of where she is on the pitch, any defender who presses her faces the challenge of her agility. Once she rids herself of her marker, she shows how wonderful her finishing is. Her finishes look like she's been playing at a high level, slotting the ball in the back of the net calmly.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">4A Level</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Lucy is a fantastic talent who plays as a striker for her school. She gives the team plenty of support both on and off the ball, proving the be a well-rounded attacking talent. When her team is out of possession, she helps press the opposition intensely. Regardless of whether it's in the middle of the park or near the box, her pressure helps recover the ball in great positions. Her strong and clean tackling makes her a headache for any player trying to build out from the back. In possession, her movements on the ball are fantastic. On the ball, she helps progress plays with phenomenal dribbling and passing. This allows for both her and her team to move forward quickly and cleanly. In the box, she is a threat who pounces on any opportunity fantastically.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Olivia is a striker who helps convert chances into goals for fun. Her presence in the box is monumental, especially given her height and physicality. Beating players to the ball comes easily to her, making the main defensive work in the box the task of the goalkeeper. An aerial threat on set pieces, she wins headers easily. These headers aren't just weak shots that lead to nothing either, as she has great accuracy and puts great power on them, too. Her positioning also makes her hard to defend, finding even the smallest pockets of space to exploit. When the ball falls to her feet in the box, she pounces on it even better than her headers. Her composure in the box is remarkable, beating the goalkeeper without much of a fuss.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Amaya makes her <a href="https://prepsoccer.com/2025/05/4a-matchday-7s-best-performers/">second appearance</a> on a list for this season, proving how well she translates her regular-season form into crunch time. A striker who typically is a killer in the box and very gifted technically, she proved to be a selfless player in this match. She adapts to the context of the match wonderfully, sacrificing potential goals for herself in favor of her team. In the box she has proven to be able to get rid of defenders, but she also proves to hold up the ball just as well. She holds off defenders and passes back so that her teammates have cleaner shots on goal. She'll also open up the play with her wide passes, even if she doesn't get the final ball. Her finishing remains one of her strongest abilities, bagging a goal as well as 2 assists in this match. </p>
