The 2025 Washington State Girls High School season is finally here! Some may say that fall is for football, but this writer says fall is for FUTBOL! I couldn't help myself ...

This week, teams from all over the state will kick off the 2025 season with eyes of hoisting the WIAA Championship Trophy come November. Last year's 4A powerhouse and State Champion, Lake Stevens, will be defending their title against the best of the best in the WESCO, SPSL, NPSL, Kingo leagues and more.

Part 1 will focus on the WESCO, SPSL, NPSL & Mid-Columbia leagues. Part 2 will focus on the Kingco (Crown-Crest & Mountain), GSHL, GSL & Big 9 leagues.

Let's take a look at what the 4A leagues look like in 2025 and who we think is going to push for some much-deserved recognition this season.

WESCO 4A:

We have to start with the league that produced the WIAA State Champion! Lake Stevens had an amazing season going undefeated in conference play with a 11-0-1 record. Overall, the Vikings went 19-1-2 during their Championship run scoring 72 goals and only conceding 10. Though their offense was elite with players like [player_tooltip player_id='170583' first='Cora' last='Jones'] and [player_tooltip player_id='274183' first='Keira' last='Tupua'], their defense was suffocating, led by GK [player_tooltip player_id='273293' first='Tessa' last='Anastasi']. The Point Loma commit will look to have another fantastic season and finish her senior year on a high note. The Kamiak Knights also had a great record last season with only a single loss in league play (9-1-2). They battled the future State Champs, and league foes, to a 1-1 draw and a close 2-0 loss in October. They will be looking for a spark from midfielder, [player_tooltip player_id='162010' first='Mia' last='Velkova'], and others to get the season off on the right foot. Jackson and Glacier Peak are not going to go down easy. They both had records above .500 and tons of developing talent. Should be a tough league this season.

SPSL 4A:

One of the toughest leagues in the PNW is the South Puget Sound League. They are literally stacked with winning programs like Sumner, Puyallup and Curtis. Those 3 teams combined for 44 wins & 7 draws last year out of 63 total games. That is a lot of positive results. The Sumner Spartans continue to be the team to beat in the SPSL. Boasting an undefeated league record last season of 9-0-2, the Spartans took home their 3rd League Championship in a row. They did not stop there. They also grabbed the District 3/4 Title as well before dropping the quarterfinal game in the State Tourney to league rival, Curtis. The talent up and down the Sumner roster is amazing. They boast numerous D1 commits like [player_tooltip player_id='155443' first='Mattie' last='Gillaspy'] (UC-Irvine), [player_tooltip player_id='28374' first='Olivia' last='Lopez'] (Washington State) and [player_tooltip player_id='28272' first='Kennedy' last='Jackson'] (Grambling State) as well as some of the top 2027 recruits like GK [player_tooltip player_id='162009' first='Devon' last='Bankers'] and defender [player_tooltip player_id='28118' first='Brooklyn' last='Johnson']. With all that talent and accolades, comes consequences. They will have a very large target on their back, so they better bring their best against the likes of Curtis and Puyallup. Both those teams have their own top tier play makers like Puyallup's [player_tooltip player_id='28158' first='Ella' last='Bach'] (Clemson) and Curtis's [player_tooltip player_id='111593' first='Olivia' last='Lorella'] to make their own splash. Also, keep your eyes on Rogers and Bonney Lake because they have some young players that are ready to shine.

NPSL 4A:

The NPSL has some remarkable teams with a history of winning. The Auburn Riverside Ravens will be looking to bounce back to the top spot in the NPSL after stellar seasons from Kentridge and Stadium. All 3 teams had 10 or more wins last season and battled down the stretch. ARHS will lean on midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='271309' first='Harper' last='Curnutt'] (Cal State-Northridge) and defender [player_tooltip player_id='272495' first='Stella' last='Beyersdorf'] to lead their squad to a League Title. Kentridge lost a ton of senior talent at the end of the season, but the Chargers have some young athletes that will be asked to step up in big games if they want to build off their 12-2-6 record a season ago. Stadium is in a similar boat but with senior GK [player_tooltip player_id='28462' first='Tyler' last='Roberts'] (Indiana) in net, they are in great shape for a big season. I would be selling the league short if I did not mention Tahoma and Kennedy Catholic. They are staples in the league and are always a threat to win meaningful games. Tahoma's GK [player_tooltip player_id='111528' first='Simone' last='Bennett'] and defender [player_tooltip player_id='223639' first='Kate' last='Spangler'] (Montana) are slated for excellent senior years. Kennedy Catholic has talent throughout the roster like [program_tooltip program_id='283471' first='Seattle' last='United'] ECNL standout midfielder/defender [player_tooltip player_id='111377' first='Kaya' last='Singh'], that can be a difference maker this season. The NPSL will be a nail biter as we follow along.

Mid-Columbia Conference 4A:

Chiawana won the District 6 Title in 2024 and have tons of returning players in 2025 that want nothing more than to accumulate additional trophies before their HS careers are complete. I would look for midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='271311' first='Lindsay' last='A. Sanchez'] to be a game changer this season for the Riverhawks. The Richland Bombers went 15-5 overall last season leaning on their seniors. They will have a new set of seniors to lead the way in 2025 and have what it takes to grasp their own titles when the dust settles.
