California 2028 Girls – New Faces in the Prep Soccer Rankings

<p>The Prep Soccer 2028 Girls California rankings will be released this week. Prior to the unveiling of the new rankings. Check out the new additions to the rankings from the Northern California region. </p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Goalkeepers </h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Kepner is a goalkeeper on the [program_tooltip program_id='283641' first='De' last='Anza Force'] 2010 ECNL team. The aspect of her game that immediately stands out is her distribution. She is an outstanding passer for the position. She can ping a ball to the winger with pace and accuracy. She's got better ball striking technique than most keepers in this class - and would probably be among the top center backs too in that skill. She is a good shot-stopper too - athletic, quick reflexes, strong hands. Kepner has been very good at the start of the ECNL season and has De Anza fighting for a top spot in the conference. </p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">DEFENDERS</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Briski is a defender/midfielder on the [program_tooltip program_id='283257' first='Bay' last='Area Surf'] 2010 ECNL team. She plays right center back for her club team, but she's capable of playing any spot in the midfield as well. She's a ball-hungry defender. She is always trying to get touches on the ball. There is a ton of confidence in how she plays - she's not shy about demanding possession or looking for opportunities to progress the ball off the dribble. She is an outstanding defender too. She tracks players and uses her physicality. Briski has been terrific this season for Bay Area. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">McCann is a defender/winger on the [program_tooltip program_id='283257' first='Bay' last='Area Surf'] 2009 ECNL team. She can play left back or left wing for her club team. She is left footed. She was outstanding on the wing previously for her club - an electric attacking talent that could create magic in the final third. McCann's play at left back this season has shown so much potential that the ceiling is sky high for the leftie. She is a weapon at outside back and a massive asset for her team in creating advantages. She's excellent on the ball, especially in 1v1 situations. McCann has the potential to be one of the top left backs in this class. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Avila is a defender on the [program_tooltip program_id='287540' first='South' last='[program_tooltip program_id='283511' first='Valley' last='Surf']'] 2010 GA team. She plays right center back for her club team. She was also part of the Girls Academy National Talent ID event last summer. Avila scores a ton of goals for a defender. She is a weapon on set pieces - both in the sense that she gets onto the service, but also in her anticipation of where the second ball will be and her quick reactions. Defensively, she is a smooth, calm player. Her team dominates the play at the Girls Academy action, so she is mainly called into the picture on a counter attack and rarely under sustained pressure. She handles center forwards with expertise and controls where they turn on the ball. Avila has been one of the best in the Girls Academy in Northern California. </p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>MIDFIELDER </strong></h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Hafis is a defensive midfielder on the [program_tooltip program_id='283641' first='De' last='Anza Force'] 2010 ECNL team. She is part of the California ODP team. Her play at the start of the season has been a bright spot for her side. She reads the game well and gets to the right spots. She is competitive and fearless in the tackle. She gets the ball off her feet quickly. She checks her shoulders before receiving the ball and has a good first touch. Hafis has the tools to be an early contributor at the next level in the midfield or even at outside back. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">McDowell is a box-to-box midfielder on the [program_tooltip program_id='283641' first='De' last='Anza Force'] 2009 ECNL team. McDowell's best attribute is her all-around game. There are a lot of things she does really well. She shines in her commitment to her team. She will make every run to help support her team. She has that endless energy supply. She could be more physical in the tackle in the center of the field. She tends to impact the game more offensively with her dribbling and passing. If she adds that bite to her player profile, she will be jump up the rankings among midfielders in this class. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Martinez is a multi-sport athlete on the [program_tooltip program_id='287540' first='South' last='[program_tooltip program_id='283511' first='Valley' last='Surf']'] 2010 GA team. She plays Softball, Tennis, and Basketball as well. On the soccer pitch, she is a focal point of the SVS attack. The attacking midfielder gets a lot of the ball for her side. She is active off the ball and earns a ton of touches. She's got good skill and excellent vision. She could be one of the top attacking standouts in the GA this season. </p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>FORWARDS</strong></h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Ling is a silky smooth winger on the [program_tooltip program_id='283257' first='Bay' last='Area Surf'] 2010 ECNL team. She was a standout during the ECNL Playoffs and has started the season on a hot streak as well. Ling scored a wonder goal against De Anza early on in the campaign. She is quick, skillful, and good with either foot. Ling's close control of the ball and quick decision-making stand out among wingers. She freezes outside backs with her unpredictable approach. Ling is quickly becoming one of the top wingers in Northern California. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Rodrigues is a forward on the [program_tooltip program_id='283641' first='De' last='Anza Force'] 2010 ECNL team. She plays in the center of the attack and is the fulcrum of the attack for her team. She's strong, skillful, and smart. Rodrigues does a bit of everything in the attack including taking free kicks for her team in the final third. She has a sweet right foot and can score from dead ball situations consistently. She could improve on getting her shot off quicker from the run of play. There is a bit of a windup to her effort. Rodrigues has the physical tools and soccer smarts to be a star at the college level. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Laird is a forward on the [program_tooltip program_id='283257' first='Bay' last='Area Surf'] 2010 ECNL team. She plays center forward for her club team. Laird has been called into US Soccer Talent ID events in the past. She's got a great first touch and a knack for the tactically nuance of her position. From watching game film, Lairn stands out for her ability to pull defenders away from areas to open up the center of the field for her teammates - especially the midfielders on [program_tooltip program_id='283257' first='Bay' last='Area Surf']. Laird could improve on her hold-up play. She has good control of the ball, but doesn't use her body as effectively as possible to hold off defenders. There's plenty of potential from the Surf striker and she should continue to be one of the top forwards in Northern California in the 2028 class. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Alston is a winger on the [program_tooltip program_id='283641' first='De' last='Anza Force'] 2010 ECNL team. She plays on the left wing for her club team. She's been called into US Soccer Talent ID events in the past. She is left footed, quick, and a good finisher from wide angles. Alston has been electric to start the season. She's proved that she can score in a variety of ways. Her speed has punished the defense in the press and she is putting the ball in the back of the net in a blink of an eye when she gets the chance. She's done well in timing her runs off the ball to split the defense and capitalize on any opening she spots. She is also capable of beating a defender off the dribble. Alston is clearly getting the attention of scouts in Northern California based on her recent call-up to the US Soccer Talent ID Camp. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Hellgreen is a forward on the [program_tooltip program_id='283641' first='De' last='Anza Force'] 09 ECNL team. She is a versatile attacking talent. She can play on the wing, center forward, or support striker. She's had standout moments in all roles. Hellgreen has a good physical frame to play as the center forward. She has an excellent understanding for the timing of her runs. She has a knack for getting on the end of crosses. She's shown she can compete against some top 2027s this season in the ECNL and should be on the radar for scouts. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Adams is a forward on the [program_tooltip program_id='287540' first='South' last='[program_tooltip program_id='283511' first='Valley' last='Surf']'] 2010 GA team. She can play on the wing or center forward. She's crafty on the ball and aggressive in 1v1 duels. She has the pace to get in behind the defense. Adams impressed in the early games this season with her striker mentality. She is always looking to score. The aggressive mindset has set her up for success on a team that provides plenty of service to the attackers with a talented midfield and defense. </p>    <p></p>   <p></p>
