Girls Academy U15: Rise and BVB even after scoreless tie

The 2025-2026 Girls Academy season is about to reach its halfway point, which will be marked by the league's traditional Winter Showcase, which this year will take place from December 4-9, in Norco, CA.   Like we've been doing for a few years now, Prep Soccer Texas continues to follow the teams from the Lone Star State throughout the season, covering matches and producing photos, articles and social media posts of the duels involving the most talented players from the state.   On Saturday, November 15, we attended a U15 duel between Rise SC and BVB International Academy Texas at Rise South Campus, in Houston.   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li>Rise SC U15 vs. [program_tooltip program_id='283274' first='BVB' last='IA Texas'] U15 - <a href="https://prepsoccer.com/2025/11/girls-academy-u15-rise-sc-vs-bvb-ia-texas-photos/↗">P</a><a href="https://prepsoccer.com/2025/11/girls-academy-u15-rise-sc-vs-bvb-ia-texas-photos/">hotos</a></li> </ul>   It was a match of few opportunities for both sides, which ended in a 0-0 tie - playing at home, Rise got closer to scoring, having a shot fired by forward Sofia Hanna hit the post in the 22nd minute of the second half.   Rise are in ninth place in the Frontier Conference with eight points (two wins, ten losses, two ties), while BVB rank eighth with the same points (two wins, eight losses, two ties).   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Players of the Match</h2>    A center back, Aguirre had a very strong defensive performance and helped Rise earn a clean sheet and get a point in the match. Fellow center back Danya Ghuneim and her were both very active and efficient, not allowing BVB many chances during the match. Aguirre stood out with her positioning, and was always on the right spot to make stops, some of which in critical moments near the end of the second half. She impressed with her quickness to step up and cover her teammates and used her body very well to win duels.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2025/11/2J4A0085.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-339043" /></figure>    Herath was arguably Rise's most influential player in the match. A center midfielder, she was very active and dynamic, getting very involved in the team's play when they had the ball. Herath moved very well into pockets of space and was very efficient with her distribution. Besides getting her teammates in good spots, she also stepped into the final third to finish chances. Herath also worked well defensively, tracking back and helping her team fight for the ball.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2025/11/2J4A0009_01670f.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-339012" /></figure>    Nepal was Rise's most goaldangerous player against BVB. She played on the right side of the team's offense, but circulated everywhere in the final third, consistently getting involved in attacking plays. Very technical, but also physical, the winger was very difficult to stop when she got going, and used her ability to take the ball forward to make crosses and earn corner kicks. Nepal also pressed high with great intensity and managed to win the ball in dangerous spots in the the attacking half on a few occasions.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2025/11/2J4A0016_6fd3c5.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-339016" /></figure>    Edney was a key piece in BVB's playing system, playing with great intensity and consistency and contributing well on both sides of the ball. She was excellent defensively in central midfield, not only covering ground and winning duels, but also frequently being the first to get to second balls, displaying great positioning. She moved to the left side of the midfield in a moment of the first half in which Rise were having success attacking there, and helped BVB control the situation. Edney also worked well with the ball, circulating it efficiently and also showing the ability to play final passes in the final third.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2025/11/2J4A0043_6b37ec.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-339030" /></figure>    Playing in the center of BVB's backline, Shimanek did a great job leading their defensive system. Tall and physical, she was very difficult to beat and dominated the penalty box. The center back made a big impac with her positioning, stepping up to clear crosses and passes through the middle. She showed good ability to combine with her teammates in the first half, when her had a more methodical approach to create chances. Smith operated well in tight spaces, using quick moves to beat defenders and create room to work.
