Six Players to Know from the 2011 US Soccer ID camp in Houston

<p>US Soccer is set to host a Talent ID Center in Houston this week, reuniting players from the 2011 age group from the Houston, Austin and San Antonio areas.</p>   <p>As many as 32 players from ten different clubs in the state were called up for the activity, which will be held at Houston Sports Park on Wednesday.</p>   <p>Some of the top talent from Texas in that age group will take part, and here are five of the most intriguing names that will be on the field:</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Moddelmog is a center back for the [program_tooltip program_id='283657' first='Houston' last='Dynamo'] U15 team in the MLS Next League. He typically plays in the center of their back three, using his excellent positioning to step up and win the ball without having to make physical plays. He does hold his own in physical duels, though, and is very good at defending the penalty box, especially in the air. Moddelmog's passing is very reliable and, although he doesn't take many risks with his distribution, he's not one to give the ball away, even when under pressure or facing his own goal.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepsoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2025/09/2J4A0179.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-319024" /></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Carbonell is a left back who plays for [program_tooltip program_id='283458' first='San' last='Antonio FC'] B11 in the ECNL league. He's very solid defensively, reading the game well and doing a great job of protecting both the space in front of him and the one behind his back with smart positioning. Carbonell has good quality going forward and also uses his passing efficiently to support his team's buildup. Combining strong technical and physical tools, he's a player who naturally gets heavily involved in his team's play on both sides of the ball. Byrd is excellent at dribbling the ball upfield and very difficult to dispossess because of how well he controls it and how smartly he uses his body to shield it. Because of his excellent movement off the ball and superior technical skills, he's a player who delivers at a high level both when it comes to creating chances and converting them. One of Maldonado's main strengths is his ability to drop from a more advanced position to get on the ball and find an accurate pass to a teammate, exploring the space he vacated. More comfortable on the left, he uses his pace and dribbling ability to be a constant threat and is very good at creating chances when isolated in 1v1 duels. Stokes is very direct and aggressive on the ball, keeping opponents under constant pressure. He can be very dangerous when he gets the ball near the edge of the box on the left and cuts it inside to his preferred right foot to finish. Capable of playing on both wings, he is very difficult to stop in 1v1 duels and times his runs off the ball extremely well, staying onside and efficiently attacking the space behind the backline.
