Girls Academy Champions Cup Best XI - 2011

The Girls Academy Winter Showcase and Champions Cup wrapped up last week from Southern California. Prep Soccer was on hand scouting the event. Check out the Best XI from the event below.     Utah Celtic finished the event with zero goals conceded from the three games. She had a stellar performance against Lou Fusz. She made some highlight reel saves from the first half with the blinding sun in her eyes. Osmond made a couple of quick, late reaction saves that were really top shelf.     Buchanan was part of the Tophat team that won the group with only two goals conceded and two shutouts from the event. The center back impressed in the game against Columbus United. With a sense of urgency to grab all three points from the fixture, the center back did well in finding direct passes on goal and picking out the runs of her teammates on goal. She had a few line splitting passes that showed off her vision and playmaking quality.     Pezzani was a standout for Lou Fusz, which finished the event with a 2-0-1 record. She was outstanding defensively especially in the game against Utah Celtic. She shut down a number of attacks. She was also a key part of the attack with her passing.     The City SC captain was impactful on both sides of the ball. She scored a wonderful header in the final game. She was irreplaceable as a defender in every game. She shut down countless attacks in the opening win over Lamorinda. Suess is a tough defender who is a smart player and makes key players at the right times. Lilah Barba, Reagan Hoffman, and Caroline Krenn were also standouts for City SC.     The NEFC Red 2011 center back was one of the best defenders at the event. She was excellent against a stellar Michigan Jaguars team. She put together impressive performance against Florida United to help her team claim the top spot in the group and a perfect 3-0 record. She's an active defender who is willing to get stuck into the challenge. She did well in cutting out crossses and clearing potential chances.     Broshears and the Indy Premier squad went through the group with zero goals conceded. The partnership between Broshears and Brooke Pape was unbreakable. They played off each other so well and knew how to cover for one another at every chance. Broshears' quality in the tackle was terrific. She kept her balance and seemed to always come away with the ball. Pape did well in her passing and found teammates with accurate passes to start the attack.     Klein did well pulling the strings in the midfield for Tophat. Morgan Bennett was also a standout in that position for Tophat. Klein and Bennett linked up to create chances for their squad especially in the final game of group play. Klein's quality showed when she checked her shoulders before receiving the ball and making quick decisions in possession. She was an excellent facilitator for her team.     Carter was a driving force for the Lou Fusz side. The talented midfielder had good moments off the dribble and on the pass. She showed that she can create chances with her close control and skill. She was able to dribble past defenders and pick out passes to her teammates. Carter stood out even when competing against the best of the best at the event.     Costello scored a left-footed rocket in the win over Florida United on the final day of the event. She had an outstanding showcase with her goal-scoring ability from the midfield. She is a skillful player with excellent ball-striking ability. She looks to be among the top 2029s from the Northeast.     Montgomery was one of the top wingers at the event. She was unstoppable at times. She won the battle against the outside back. She is excellent on the dribble and can get past defenders off either foot. Montgomery was effective in the attack in all three games.     Jones was a top forward in any age group at the event. She looked fully in control in every game. She was excellent in the final game against Virginia Revolution. Her assist on the second goal showed all the best aspects of her game. She plays with her head up. She is calm on the ball. And she draws the attention of everyone on the field so that chances open up for her teammates. Jones has big time potential and the physical profile to be the top No. 9 in this age group.
