In my second year as a prep soccer scout, I was able to capture some sensational goals during the high school season. Here are my top 5 goals for the Girls NorCal season, starting from the beginning of the season and moving on down towards the end of league competition. Highlights in this article are when teams are making their run to a playoff spot in section competition and section playoffs. Future volumes will continue section tournaments, the NorCal and SoCal tournaments, and the inaugural state championships. I want to give thanks to all the high school athletic directors and coaches for having me feature their teams and players.

No stranger to the spotlight, [player_tooltip player_id='82602' first='Abby' last='Nelson'], the Cal commit, put on a scoring clinic in Los Gatos vs. Sacred Heart Prep in a non-league matchup featuring two top-level A-teams. Her hat trick was more than needed as the Wildcats of Los Gatos ran away with a 5-0 score. I've covered Abby in multiple matches after this match, and at every game, she always delivered. Consistency is one of her trademarks as well as scoring in bunches. The #42 ranked player in the nation, #9 in CA, and #1 in position also helped her team to a Division 1 NorCal Section title. Her awesome 41 goals and 14 assists in 23 games are an awesome feat. If there's any player who should have a shot at a USYNT team invite, it definitely is Abby.

[player_tooltip player_id='331630' first='Lexie' last='Scundi'] of Mountain View High School had a really good year as a freshman starter. She played in 19 matches, contributed on both ends of the pitch, and tallied 4 goals and 5 assists. Her goal against Santa Clara was top-level. Her goal came off of a deflected corner kick. Her quick run to the ball and one-touch power shot were too fast for the defense and goalkeeper to respond to. Lexie was active on the defensive third, while making defensive stops with clean tackles and stepping in attacking lanes. She also had another beautiful goal at ECNL Phoenix, but that would be saved for another time. Lexie should get into the top 100 rankings in the next 2029 update. Her ascent in both the high school and club competitions will definitely help with that.

[player_tooltip player_id='211239' first='Elle' last='Sloan']'s goal was one of the best I've seen throughout the year. Not only did it come at a perfect time, but it also set the tempo for which Carondelet played throughout the season. Her EPIC in this series is just one of the amazing goals I've witnessed during the Cougars' run to the sectional playoffs. The other goals will have to wait, as this one takes center stage. The Houston commit got the only goal of the match. It was a nearly perfect goal that snuck past the goalkeeper with the slightest of margins. Elle provided pressure up top and made multiple runs on goal. Her ability to find soft spots on the field allows her to play without immediate pressure. She's a smart and calculative player. She showed the ability to process the flow of the game quickly and make split-second decisions on attack. Her style of play will easily transition to the college level. While putting up 14 goals and 2 assists in her final year, the University of Houston commit should be proud of the Cougars' run at an NCS Open title as the runner-up team to Bishop O'Dowd. They were definitely two of the best teams in the NorCal region this past year.

Maliah Mirasol scored the opening goal of the match for the Piedmont Hills Pirates in the first 8 minutes of play. Her set-piece shot was taken slightly off the corner kick spot, and it dipped perfectly out of the reach of the goalkeeper. The slicing kick swerved into the back netting for a spectacular go-ahead goal. Maliah also made multiple runs on goal and applied pressure up top. Her ability to find soft spots in the defense also gave her an advantage in taking quality shots on goal. Her set-piece goal was a perfectly placed goal worthy of any soccer scoring highlight reel.

Jaslene scored the Pirate's second goal around the 28th minute mark. She received a pass from the right wing, just inside of the 18. She then cut to her left and sent the ball past the goalkeeper with a left-footed banger. Her ability to make strong runs into the penalty area caused havoc on the Pioneer defense. She had multiple shots on goal that either went wide or slightly over the top. She has some speed to get by defenders and has the strength to take shots from range. Her ability to move off the ball was a sight to see. This Pirate senior should be proud of her team and coach for getting them to a playoff win after a few dismal seasons.
